Racing Incident Report
KING PALM and KING OF SPADES were slow to begin. On jumping, JOYFUL WORLD was crowded for room between LUCKY CORDELIA and MAINLAND MASTER. From the outside barrier, THREE CLUBS was taken across behind runners. In the early stages, GLOBE RIVER hung in. At the 900 Metres, KING PALM was checked when crowded for room inside GIFTED RUNNER which was racing tight inside SHANGHAI DELIGHT which was carried in slightly by JOYFUL WORLD which shifted in when being steadied whilst racing tight inside PAY-DAY which had its head on the side and shifted in away from UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR. In the opinion of the Stewards, the occurrence was accidental and therefore no action was taken. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, CROWNED GEM (Apprentice K T Yeung) and THREE CLUBS (O Doleuze) raced tight and bumped. In this incident, the right elbow of O Doleuze was raised. As the Stewards could not be satisfied the elbow of O Doleuze came into contact with the body of Apprentice Yeung, no action was taken, however, O Doleuze was advised against the practice of allowing his elbow to be extended away from his body in similar circumstances. After the 700 Metres, GIFTED RUNNER was crowded for room inside SHANGHAI DELIGHT. Making the Home Turn, KING OF SPADES was carried wider by CROWNED GEM which shifted out to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, A BETTER DRAGON and PAY-DAY travelled wide and without cover. B Prebble (SHANGHAI DELIGHT) was fined $3,000 for improper use of the whip in that he raised weal marks over the horse's right flank. Y T Cheng (LUCKY CORDELIA), which had intended to be ridden in about 5th position, explained the horse raced in a more forward position than instructed due to it beginning well and being able to travel comfortably without being made use of. D Whyte (MAINLAND MASTER) explained near the 600 Metres when following PAY-DAY his mount changed legs, commenced to travel uncomfortably and was reluctant to maintain its position. He said in the Straight MAINLAND MASTER hung in and did not finish the race off. MAINLAND MASTER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of MAINLAND MASTER after the race did not show any significant findings. JOYFUL WORLD and GLOBE RIVER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR had lost its left front plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 14 May 2007)
The Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison reported that UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR was yesterday morning found to be lame in the left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
