Racing Incident Report
TELECOM TYCOON, trained by Mr D Cruz, was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards following advice which was received at about 8:30 am that STRAIGHT VICTORY, a horse trained by Mr T K Ng which had a fever and had been treated with phenylbutazone paste, had been relocated into the horse stall adjoining the stall occupied by TELECOM TYCOON. As phenylbutazone is a prohibited substance and there was the possibility TELECOM TYCOON had been cross-contaminated from STRAIGHT VICTORY, Mr Cruz when he became aware of the circumstances this morning requested permission for TELECOM TYCOON to be withdrawn. The Stewards acceded to Mr Cruz's request. After interviewing Trainer D Cruz, Assistant Trainer K H Kwan allocated to Mr Cruz, Trainer T K Ng, Assistant Trainer W C Yeung allocated to Mr Ng, and Mr Samson Lau, Acting Stables Manager, the Stewards were satisfied that no individual had breached the Rules of Racing. However, all parties were advised that a report on the incident would be forwarded to Mr J P Ridley, Head of Racing Operations, for his consideration. Trainer Y S Tsui was fined $2,000 for initially presenting SHOW BRAVELY in the Parade Ring without a ring bit, part of that horse's declared gear. AS YOU WISH began awkwardly, bumped with DANEPRINT and as a consequence lost ground. NATURAL ECHO was slow to begin. Near the 1500 Metres, COULDN'T CARE LESS was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of STAR PRODIGY which shifted in. Near the 400 Metres, COULDN'T CARE LESS, which was endeavouring to shift out to obtain clear running, was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of DANEPRINT. At the 400 Metres, AS YOU WISH was steadied and shifted to the outside of HURRICANE WAY to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, SPEED OF LIGHT travelled wide and without cover. SHOW BRAVELY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SHOW BRAVELY after the race did not show any significant findings. DANEPRINT, FIGS and AS YOU WISH were sent for sampling.
