Racing Incident Report

After beginning well from the outside barrier, BAUHINIA was taken across behind runners in the early stages. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, ARISTOCRACY was steadied in an attempt to obtain cover, however, was unable to do so and was left racing wide and without cover until after the 1000 Metres. Near the 1300 Metres, GOLD DIGGER was steadied away from the heels of CITY SURFER which shifted in when barely clear. Z Purton (ARISTOCRACY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of COULDN'T CARE LESS, causing that horse to be crowded for room and lose its rightful running, resulting in GOLD GEM which was following and proving difficult to settle striking the heels of COULDN'T CARE LESS, blundering and almost falling. BAUHINIA, which was following, was hampered in consequence. Z Purton was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 7 April 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 30 March 2008. In addition, Z Purton was fined $15,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Near the 400 Metres, LIGHTNING MOUNT was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TALE OF FRIENDSHIP and tight outside LAZY BUDDIES. G Boss (CALL ME CULLEN) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of LAZY BUDDIES, causing that horse to be crowded for room, lose its rightful running and be checked. COULDN'T CARE LESS and STARFINDER, which were following, were hampered in consequence. G Boss was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 7 April 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 30 March 2008. In addition, G Boss was fined $25,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. In assessing penalty, the Stewards acknowledged that LIGHTNING MOUNT had a minor contribution to this incident. Making the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, LIGHTNING MOUNT was held up and was unable to improve. In the early part of the Straight, COULDN'T CARE LESS was held up and unable to improve. After the 200 Metres, LAZY BUDDIES, which was closing the race off fairly, was steadied and shifted wider. LAZY BUDDIES, COULDN'T CARE LESS and GOLD DIGGER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LAZY BUDDIES and COULDN'T CARE LESS after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, GOLD DIGGER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GOLD DIGGER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LIGHTNING MOUNT and DRAGON STRIDE were sent for sampling.
