Racing Incident Report

On jumping, MOONGLOW bumped with DRAGON BOY and as a consequence lost ground. From the outside barrier, ALL OUR WAY was taken back in the early stages. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, ANIMATION and LUCKY DRAGON took time to muster speed. After the 1200 Metres, when being shifted in, REAL SURPRISE struck the heels of LUCKY DRAGON, blundered badly and dislodged D Whyte, its rider. ALL OUR WAY and MOONGLOW, which were following, were checked in consequence. After the race, D Whyte was examined by the Club’s doctor who said he was fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. Also after the race, the Veterinary Officer reported REAL SURPRISE was lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, REAL SURPRISE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Near the 1000 Metres, LUCKY DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of GRAND GENERAL. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, GRAND GENERAL was left racing wide and without cover. Near the 100 Metres, NAMJONG HUNTER and KING FAY FAY brushed. After the race, Z Purton (ALL OUR WAY), which finished tailed out, said at no stage of the race was his mount comfortable in the wet track conditions. He said ALL OUR WAY despite being ridden along throughout the race did not stride out properly and when placed under heavy pressure after straightening did not respond. He said as it was apparent ALL OUR WAY was not responding, he did not persevere in riding his mount out. When questioned regarding the poor performance of ANIMATION, D Beadman said at no stage of the race did his mount handle today’s wet track conditions. ANIMATION and MOONGLOW were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ANIMATION and MOONGLOW after the race did not show any significant findings. KING FAY FAY and NAMJONG HUNTER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 30 June 2008)
Following the race, it was reported REAL SURPRISE was lame in the left front leg and would be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again. Subsequently REAL SURPRISE underwent a further examination at the Veterinary Hospital which revealed the horse had suffered a fracture to the left front leg and had been euthanized.
