Racing Incident Report
SHATIN WIN WIN was withdrawn on 30.6.08 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter KING OF SPADES (W M Lai). Before being allowed to race again, SHATIN WIN WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MEDALLION was slow to begin. BRAVO HORSE began awkwardly. SUPREME DRAGON, which was standing badly, was slow to begin, then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover. From the wide barrier, SOHNA was taken back. On straightening, CLEMENT ELITE was steadied and shifted to the outside of FULL BLESSINGS into clear running. At the 200 Metres, FULL BLESSINGS was bumped by THUNDER VALLEY which when giving ground became unbalanced and shifted out after being brushed by SOHNA. CLASSA WIN, which was following, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of FULL BLESSINGS. When questioned, O Doleuze (EXPEDITIOUS) explained when he had ridden the horse at its most recent start which was over 1600 Metres, he rode along in the early stages to obtain a forward position. He said as a consequence of riding EXPEDITIOUS along in the early stages, the horse proved difficult to settle when he was not able to obtain a position with cover. He said EXPEDITIOUS responded to his riding in the early part of the Straight, however, whilst being beaten a short margin, in his opinion its run ended short of the line. He said because of this he discussed with Mr B K Ng, trainer of the horse, that EXPEDITIOUS might be better suited dropped back in distance and ridden more quietly to enable it to finish its race off. He said today over 1400 Metres from a wide barrier he took EXPEDITIOUS back in the early stages to a rearward position, the horse travelled comfortably in the run, however, in the Straight did not quicken as he anticipated it would. He said in his opinion EXPEDITIOUS’ poor performance in today’s race was due to the horse racing “flat” on a quick backup. B Prebble (THUNDER VALLEY) explained because the horse has a history of proving difficult to settle, from barrier 3 he rode his mount forward to lead as instructed, however, in the Back Straight shifted wider in the hope that no other horse would improve on his outside. He said in the past when horses travelled outside THUNDER VALLEY, the horse had proved difficult to settle. He said approaching the turn at the 800 Metres he shifted THUNDER VALLEY back towards the rail, however, continued to race one horse away from the fence and despite being left alone in front, THUNDER VALLEY again would not relax for him. He said the intention had been to shift away from the rail in the Home Straight as it was thought the going might be better. He said when giving ground in the Straight THUNDER VALLEY was unbalanced in its action. THUNDER VALLEY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, THUNDER VALLEY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings other than the horse had lost its left front plate. CLEMENT ELITE, SOHNA and MOSHI MOSHI were sent for sampling.
