Racing Incident Report

As the start was effected, MASCOT FORTUNE reared and lost ground. Near the 850 Metres, ROYAL PEGASUS was checked when crowded for room inside CHIEF WITNESS which was taken in by CHAMPION MOUNT which itself shifted in after being taken in slightly by LOCAL POWER (C W Wong). C W Wong was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that in future he leaves sufficient racing room for his fellow riders. Rounding the Home Turn, CHAMPION MOUNT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of JOHNSON. Then, shortly after straightening, CHAMPION MOUNT, which was endeavouring to improve to the inside of the heels of JOHNSON, was steadied when disappointed for running inside that horse. Passing the 300 Metres, TELECOM GOGO was steadied when disappointed for running between YUE LU TREASURE and HAPPY MASTER. When questioned, Apprentice M Chadwick (ROYAL PEGASUS) stated that as it was expected there were a number of runners that would go forward in today’s race, he should obtain cover on the horse in the hope that it would be able to finish off the race. He said although ROYAL PEGASUS encountered interference near the 850 Metres, the manner in which it finished off the race was only fair. When questioned regarding his riding of ISTIDE approaching and rounding the Home Turn, Apprentice M L Yeung stated that the horse commenced to lay out passing the 600 Metres and for this reason he went for another hold on the horse near the 500 Metres. He said after this ISTIDE continued to lay out, he changed the whip from his right hand into his left hand to help ISTIDE around the corner, however, despite his efforts, ISTIDE shifted out rounding the Home Turn. He said this allowed the opportunity for MOONWALK to improve its position to his inside. A veterinary inspection of MASCOT FORTUNE, CHIEF WITNESS and TELECOM GOGO after the race did not show any significant findings. MOONWALK and CHAMPION MOUNT were sent for sampling.
