Racing Incident Report
SUPREME WIN, which was fractious in the barriers, lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and lost ground. STREET CAT was slow to begin. DANZULU was slow to muster speed in the early stages. Approaching the 600 Metres, SUPREME WIN and HEARTLINE raced tight between TOUCH GO which shifted in slightly and MOONWALK which shifted out slightly away from ABLE SPEED. ROYAL PERICLES, which was following HEARTLINE, was shifted out in consequence. ROMPING was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. Throughout the race, SHINING VICTORY travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, B Prebble (HAPPY REUNION) stated that it had been his intention to lead on the horse today. He said HAPPY REUNION began well, he rode along in the early stages to take up a forward position, however, a number of horses maintained their positions to his inside. He said HAPPY REUNION lay in badly in the early stages of the race and due to runners holding their positions to his inside, HAPPY REUNION was left racing wide and without cover. He said had he ridden along in the early stages to cross principally ABLE SPEED but also MOONWALK and LOYAL ARMY, he believed that HAPPY REUNION would not be able to finish off the race. He said after the race HAPPY REUNION was making an abnormal breathing noise. When questioned, M Du Plessis stated that he had been advised that HAPPY BOY had hung out in track work and in its trials and for this reason he carried the whip in his left hand. He said HAPPY BOY, which he was riding for the first time today, began only fairly, he used the whip on HAPPY BOY shortly after the start to ensure that the horse, which had raced over longer distances prior to being imported into Hong Kong, did not become detached from the field. He said he rode his mount along throughout the race to maintain its position on the back of the eventual winner, ROMPING. He added rounding the Home Turn HAPPY BOY hung out, therefore he struck the horse down the shoulder with the whip in an attempt to have it race tractably. He said in the early part of the Straight he shifted out in an endeavour to obtain a run to the outside of MOONWALK, however, that gap closed passing the 250 Metres, therefore he elected to shift HAPPY BOY back in to follow HAPPY REUNION and ROMPING. He said HAPPY BOY then closed off the race strongly. When questioned, C W Wong stated that he had been instructed to have LOYAL ARMY travelling behind the speed in about 3rd, 4th or 5th position. He said LOYAL ARMY began well, he restrained his mount in the early stages in an attempt to allow runners to cross from the outside, however, LOYAL ARMY raced keenly and when horses did not cross as he had hoped, LOYAL ARMY was left racing in the leading division without cover. He said due to LOYAL ARMY racing near the lead, the horse did not finish off today’s race. A veterinary inspection of LOYAL ARMY after the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SUPREME WIN after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SUPREME WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPREME WIN, ROMPING and SHINING VICTORY were sent for sampling.
