Racing Incident Report
FAST FORWARD, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 20.1.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, FAST FORWARD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUNSHINE BOY was very slow to begin. Having in mind SUNSHINE BOY’s recent record in respect of being slow to begin, the Stewards ruled that SUNSHINE BOY will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before being allowed to race again. AMAZING SUPERNOVA was slow to begin. From wide barriers, PILLOWIN and GRACYTOM were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 700 Metres, AMAZING SUPERNOVA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MEGA CHAMPION. CLEMENT SPIRIT, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence. Near the 500 Metres, GRACYTOM lost ground when steadied away from the heels of HEI HEI POSH. SURROUNDED, which was racing tight outside CLEMENT SPIRIT which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of AMAZING SUPERNOVA, struck the heels of GRACYTOM and blundered badly. Near the 300 Metres, EASY TRACK got its head on the side and shifted in towards the heels of SOLAR BOY. In the Straight, HEI HEI POSH got its head on the side and hung out. Apprentice T H So (SOLAR BOY) was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the end of the race at least hands and heels where circumstances permit. For the major part of the race, THANKSGIVING travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, D Whyte stated that he had been instructed, if possible, to lead on DR SUPER. He said that after beginning only fairly he rode his mount along in the early stages to improve his position. He said approaching the 1200 Metres he had intended to clear EASY TRACK to his inside, however, that horse was being vigorously ridden along to maintain its position. He said he was also mindful that SOLAR BOY was being ridden along, from a wide barrier, to obtain the lead. He said as he felt that he would have had to make some use of DR SUPER to clear EASY TRACK to his inside given that horse was being ridden to maintain its position, he elected to steady DR SUPER and allowed SOLAR BOY to cross near the 800 Metres. He added after this he improved his position to be racing towards the hindquarters of SOLAR BOY and outside EASY TRACK. He said he was mindful of not being engaged in a speed battle with EASY TRACK and SOLAR BOY in the early and middle stages. A veterinary inspection of SUNSHINE BOY and SURROUNDED after the race did not show any significant findings. DR SUPER, MEGA CHAMPION and CLEMENT SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
