Racing Incident Report
YOUNG HAPPY was slow to begin.
BELIEVE IN CHANCE began awkwardly and then shortly after the start, along with DR UNION, was crowded for room between OCEAN BRIGHT and ALP’S GLORY, both of which shifted ground. After this, BELIEVE IN CHANCE was taken across behind runners and then finished tailed out. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on BELIEVE IN CHANCE at the request of Trainer P O’Sullivan. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination found the horse to be a “roarer”. He also reported that BELIEVE IN CHANCE was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being permitted to race again, BELIEVE IN CHANCE will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Despite being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, ISLAND SPRING failed to muster speed and was taken back behind runners shortly after the start.
Near the 850 Metres, NEWSWIRE TOO raced in restricted room between OCEAN BRIGHT and YOUNG HAPPY which shifted out slightly.
Approaching and passing the 600 Metres, LOTUS LOVE and DARK SECRET raced tight as LOTUS LOVE attempted to shift DARK SECRET to the running rail behind ALP’S GLORY.
Approaching the 300 Metres, ALP’S GLORY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SEIZE THE DAY.
Approaching the 50 Metres, DARK SECRET was steadied when crowded for room between FLYING KEEPER and ALP’S GLORY which shifted out.
Throughout the race, DR UNION travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of DARK SECRET after the race did not show any significant findings.
ISLAND SPRING and LOTUS LOVE were sent for sampling.
