Racing Incident Report
SUPER LIFELINE was bumped at the start by LUCKY DOLLAR which was taken out by ALMABABY.
WAH MAY FRIEND and WONDERFUL JOURNEY began awkwardly.
From the outside barriers, PERPETUAL JOYANCE and MR GENUINE were steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Near the 1150 Metres, LUCKY DOLLAR was momentarily crowded for room inside SUPER LIFELINE which shifted in before being directed out to relieve the tightening to LUCKY DOLLAR.
For some distance after the 1000 Metres, ALMABABY travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SEA JADE.
Passing the 900 Metres, MR GENUINE travelled keenly.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, KEY WITNESS got its head on the side, shifted out and bumped MR GENUINE, resulting in that horse shifting out and inconveniencing BLOCKER DEE.
Near the 450 Metres, MR GENUINE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CONVINCIBLE when racing tight inside BLOCKER DEE.
Approaching the 200 Metres, MR GENUINE raced in restricted room between CONVINCIBLE and HAPPY AGILITY which shifted out.
Passing the 200 Metres, KEY WITNESS was shifted out away from the heels of ALMABABY.
Over the concluding stages, KEY WITNESS was unable to obtain clear running and consequently was not ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
Close to the finishing line, SEA JADE shifted out and brushed SUPER LIFELINE.
Throughout the race, HAPPY AGILITY travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding his riding of LUCKY DOLLAR over about the final 100 Metres, C Schofield stated that he rode his mount along in the early part of the Straight to improve into clear running inside SUPER LIFELINE. He said when that horse shifted in after the 200 Metres, he directed LUCKY DOLLAR to the outside of SUPER LIFELINE near the 150 Metres and immediately commenced to ride his mount along to improve between that horse and WAH MAY FRIEND. He said he became aware that WAY MAY FRIEND was drifting in under pressure and as SUPER LIFELINE was being ridden along by its rider with the whip in the right hand, he was concerned that LUCKY DOLLAR was not improving its position sufficiently to establish the running between those horses were either horse to shift ground as he anticipated they might do. He said he continued to ride his mount along vigorously hands and heels, however, he was reluctant to commence to use the whip on the horse as he was awkwardly placed between the heels of both SUPER LIFELINE and WAH MAY FRIEND. He added approaching the finishing line WAH MAY FRIEND shifted in under pressure which resulted in LUCKY DOLLAR having to be steadied away from the heels of that horse and not being able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race. The Stewards informed Jockey Schofield that the vigour that he used on LUCKY DOLLAR over about the final 100 Metres prior to having to steady his mount due to the shift from WAH MAY FRIEND had come under notice. He was advised that, wherever circumstances permit, he would be expected to ride his mounts out with sufficient vigour so as to ensure that his riding does not come under query.
A veterinary inspection of BLOCKER DEE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that WAH MAY FRIEND had sustained a wound to the right stifle.
CONVINCIBLE, WAH MAY FRIEND and MR GENUINE were sent for sampling.
