Racing Incident Report
The Stewards interviewed Mr J Moore, the trainer of FORTUNE WAY, regarding a report which had been forwarded to them by Dr P Curl, Executive Manager, Veterinary Regulation. Also interviewed were Mr C W Wong, assistant trainer allocated to Mr Moore’s stable and Mr P C Man, head lad. Dr Curl reported to the Stewards that at the time of FORTUNE WAY undergoing its pre-race veterinary inspection on the morning of Saturday, 24 March 2018, there was prima facie evidence that the horse had been subjected to ice treatment on its left front leg within the prohibited two-hour period stipulated in the Trainers’ Handbook. Mr Moore confirmed that FORTUNE WAY had inadvertently been subjected to ice treatment yesterday morning and this treatment was not scheduled to take place until after the conclusion of track work yesterday. FORTUNE WAY was subsequently re-examined after the two-hour period had elapsed and was found to be suitable to race. Mr Moore pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 50(2) in that contrary to Regulation 128(e) of the Trainers’ Handbook, FORTUNE WAY, a horse trained by him and a declared runner in this race, had been subjected to ice treatment to its left front leg within the prescribed time of two hours prior to that horse undergoing its pre-race veterinary inspection. Mr Moore was fined the sum of $15,000. Mr Man was advised that a report would be forwarded to Stables Management regarding his role in this matter.
GOOD CHOICE AHEAD was slow to begin.
FORTUNE WAY began only fairly.
PEARL CHAMPION was crowded for room on jumping between AMBITIOUS HEART and JUMBO BUS which shifted out abruptly.
SMILING PRIDE shifted in on jumping and bumped EMPIRE STAR which became badly unbalanced and lost ground when being checked away from the heels of AMBITIOUS HEART.
From the outside barrier, MERRYGOWIN was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Passing the 1100 Metres, FORTUNE WAY was momentarily crowded for room inside SMILING PRIDE which shifted in before being directed out to relieve the tightening to FORTUNE WAY.
When being steadied to obtain a trailing positon after the 1100 Metres, E MASTER, when travelling wide, proved difficult to settle.
After the 900 Metres, SHALLUCK travelled wide and without cover.
At the entrance to the Straight, AMBITIOUS HEART was awkwardly placed close to the heels of THE SHOW when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running.
Also at the entrance to the Straight, EMPIRE STAR was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of JUMBO BUS.
MERRYGOWIN hung in under pressure over the final 200 Metres.
Near the 50 Metres, E MASTER raced tight outside MEGA TREASURE which shifted out.
Close to the finishing line, A BEAUTIFUL got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of RIGHT CALL, resulting in its rider, Apprentice H N Wong, being unable to fully test that horse over the concluding stages.
Passing the winning post. PEARL CHAMPION raced tight inside MEGA TREASURE which was crowded for room inside MERRYGOWIN which continued to lay in under pressure.
After the race, A Sanna reported that SMILING PRIDE did not feel comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of SMILING PRIDE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SMILING PRIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
RIGHT CALL and EMPIRE STAR were sent for sampling.
