Racing Incident Report
Just prior to the start being effected, BEAR SLAM became fractious, resulting in the horse beginning awkwardly and losing ground.
ROYAL PRIDE stumbled at the start.
SIGHT SPIRIT shifted out at the start and brushed KING’S CAPITAL. SIGHT SPIRIT then became unbalanced as a result of being bumped by ELITE PATCH which shifted out.
TURIN REDSTAR, which was standing awkwardly, lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and consequently lost ground. Then for the majority of the race, TURIN REDSTAR travelled wide and without cover.
From the outside barriers, AMAZING CHOCOLATE, ULTRA EXPRESS and ROMANTIC COMBO were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
APACHE PASS was left racing wide and without cover near the 900 Metres.
ROYAL PRIDE had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 100 Metres.
When questioned, V Borges was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of SIGHT SPIRIT which was having its first race start on the All Weather surface today. He said from barrier 8 he was asked to obtain a forward position and try to attempt to obtain a trailing position behind the leaders if possible. He said in the early stages SIGHT SPIRIT was left racing wide and without cover and for this reason he allowed the horse to improve its position near the 1100 Metres to race outside the lead after the 1000 Metres. He said in the early and middle stages SIGHT SPIRIT travelled well and he anticipated that the horse would be able to finish the race off strongly, however, passing the 600 Metres he commenced to ride his mount along as SIGHT SPIRIT was not quickening as well as anticipated. He said APACHE PASS was able to improve its position around SIGHT SPIRIT easily passing the 500 Metres and after this, despite being ridden out in the Straight, SIGHT SPIRIT did not respond to his riding and was very disappointing in the manner in which it weakened out of the race over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of SIGHT SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
C L Chau, the rider of ELITE PATCH, which finished tailed out, was not able to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse. He said ELITE PATCH travelled keenly in the early and middle stages, however, gave ground abruptly after being placed under pressure prior to the Home Turn. A veterinary inspection of ELITE PATCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of ELITE PATCH was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ELITE PATCH will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of TURIN REDSTAR, BEAR SLAM and ROMANTIC COMBO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
APACHE PASS and TRUE LEGEND were sent for sampling.
<14/2/2022 Additional Veterinary Reports>ELITE PATCH, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. ELITE PATCH was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. As previously advised, ELITE PATCH will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
