1 8 M UNICORN (G466) Jumped awkwardly and then got its head up when bumped by SURE JOYFUL. Lay in in the Home Straight. Sent for sampling post-race.
2 11 SURE JOYFUL (G125) Lay in in the Home Straight. Sent for sampling post-race.
3 9 HAPPY ANGEL (G133) Passing the 250 Metres was bumped by RED HARE KING which shifted out when being corrected by its rider M Chadwick. When questioned regarding his riding and the reason he elected to leave a trailing position behind GALLANT CROWN approaching the 900 Metres to improve, K De Melo stated that his instructions were to lead and after his mount did not show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position, he was obliged to settle in a handy position behind GALLANT CROWN. He said when he observed the pace of the event eased slightly after the 900 Metres, he elected to allow HAPPY ANGEL to improve three deep with a view to crossing to the lead as he was advised that HAPPY ANGEL is a one-paced horse. Assistant Trainer P H Lo confirmed the instructions issued to Jockey De Melo. After considering his explanation, the Stewards advised Jockey De Melo that the tactics he adopted were reasonable in the circumstances although HAPPY ANGEL was unable to cross to the rail and as a result raced wide and without cover from the 900 Metres.
4 2 OUR LUCKY GLORY (G292) Crowded at the start. In the middle stages raced keenly and after the 1000 Metres was steadied away from CLUB SODA.
5 7 CLUB SODA (H312) Lay in in the early part of the Home Straight and for some distance near the 200 Metres raced in restricted room to the inside of SURE JOYFUL which lay in.
6 10 PALACE PAL (G172) When being shifted towards the rail approaching the 1600 Metres was awkwardly placed on the heels of HAPPY ANGEL and was steadied.
7 4 RED HARE KING (H188) No report.
8 1 GALLANT CROWN (D359) No report.
9 12 ARTHUR'S KINGDOM (E194) Shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced.
10 5 MASTER TORNADO (G410) M Chadwick (RED HARE KING) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 250 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CONCERTO, resulting in CONCERTO being unnecessarily crowded for room and having to be steadied and also being taken in, unnecessarily crowding MASTER TORNADO. M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 6 December 2023 at Happy Valley. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 3 and the consequences grade 1 and also took into account his good race riding record. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
11 3 CAN'T GO WONG (H087) From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
12 6 CONCERTO (E176) Steadied when crowded near the 250 Metres. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
