Racing Incident Report
ACCURACY was presented in the mounting yard without its registered ring bit. This was fitted before the horse proceeded to the Start. Subsequently, Mr K C Lo, Trainer of ACCURACY, was fined $2,000 for negligently presenting ACCURACY for the race without its registered gear. On jumping, RECOGNITION shifted in and bumped GOOD MESSAGE which in turn shifted ground and made contact with ACCURACY. On leaving the gates, NEW PLANET was tightened for room between MIR and BORN TO WIN, both of which shifted ground. Just after the start, FAIR LADY was steadied when tightened by ACCURACY which shifted in slightly from GOOD MESSAGE. Rounding the turn and in the early part of the Straight, FAIR LADY was held up behind ALBELA. Near the 400 Metres, FAIR LADY was shifted in to improve inside ALBELA and was then held up behind FOREVER GOLD. To obtain running, FAIR LADY was steadied, taken back and shifted to the outside of FOREVER GOLD just before the 200 Metres. Near the winning post, JOYFUL STAR shifted out slightly, causing some inconvenience to ALBELA. In the run to the winning post, FORTUNE TYCOON shifted out, because of this F Coetzee momentarily stopped riding and changed his whip hand. Also right on the line, BORN TO WIN shifted in, causing some inconvenience to RETURN A SMILE. As a result of BORN TO WIN shifting ground, J Egan stopped riding. J Egan (BORN TO WIN) stated from a difficult gate he felt he had little alternative but to steady, take up a position further back than normal, but closer to the rail. He said had BORN TO WIN drawn more favourably, there was little doubt he would have ridden the horse in a more prominent position. E Saint-Martin (ACCURACY) stated in the run to the line, he was concerned with the action of ACCURACY and consequently did not ride the horse out as he normally would. FOREVER GOLD was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that FOREVER GOLD was making an abnormal breathing noise. He said this was probably the result of the horse having a permanent paralysis of the near side of its larynx.
