Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, SIR TIMAH, which had drawn stall 13, became fractious and lunged forward. During the course of this occurrence, the front gates of stall 13 were damaged and to avoid an unreasonable delay it was decided to shift SIR TIMAH and ARABICA out one stall and leave the damaged stall vacant. When the gates opened for the start of the race, the inside gate on stall 14 was slightly slow to open as a consequence of the damage done to stall 13. The Stewards delayed the declaration of weighed-in as they wished to give consideration as to whether SIR TIMAH had been denied a fair start. They decided despite the inside gate opening a little slowly, SIR TIMAH jumped in front and as such did not have an unfair start. In the circumstances of this case, they decided it was inappropriate to exercise their powers under Rule 12(19). Accordingly weighed-in was semaphored. Before racing again, SIR TIMAH will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. FAIRWAY FINDER left the gates awkwardly with its head up, shifted out and made contact with JOKERS WILD. CAVIAR ONE was slowly away. Near the 1200 Metres, WAH YAN FORTUNE was steadied when crowded by BY INSTINCT which in turn was racing tight just inside the heels of ROUND THE WORLD. About the 700 Metres, BY INSTINCT was unbalanced when momentarily crowded by ROUND THE WORLD. Near the 200 Metres, ARABICA and FAIRWAY FINDER came together. W Woods (ROUND THE WORLD) said running to the Home Turn he was awkwardly placed close to heels of SOUNDS GOOD, when being steadied ROUND THE WORLD got its head up slightly, then on straightening he had difficulty obtaining a clear run between SIR TIMAH and HAPPY FORTUNE. W Woods did say however despite these incidents the horse was a little disappointing when he was able to get into the clear and ride it right out. JOKERS WILD and ROUND THE WORLD were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said JOKERS WILD had sustained a laceration to the area of its near front cannon. Following the race, it was noted ROUND THE WORLD had sustained small lacerations to both hind fetlock joints.
