Racing Incident Report

ROUND THE WORLD left the gates very awkwardly with its head up, shifted out abruptly, as a consequence of this, W Woods was unbalanced in the saddle and the horse got well back. From a difficult gate, CLASSA WIN was obliged to race wide, was not able to find cover and in the middle stages went forward when wide to race outside the leader. Near the 400 Metres, EMPIRE COURT was checked when crowded by C'EST LA VIE (Y T Cheng) which shifted in to find running and endeavoured to go forward. Y T Cheng was reprimanded and told to exercise more care when shifting ground. Near the winning post, EMPIRE COURT was again steadied when improving and close to the heels of COMMON PLACE which was giving ground. H K Yim (NEW PLANET) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that at about the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in whilst riding it along when not clear of DOLLARS AND SENSE. As a consequence of this, DOLLARS AND SENSE, which was inclined to be hanging in, was carried onto ROUND THE WORLD, lost its running and was checked. H K Yim displayed considerable regret for the trouble he had caused and after taking this into account and his guilty plea, despite his bad race riding record, the Stewards formed the opinion that the appropriate penalty was for his licence to ride in races be suspended until Sunday 31 March 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (5 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting at Happy Valley next Wednesday, 13 March 2002. Approaching the winning post, VIPER CORP was unbalanced when crowded between DANDY BUNNY and CLASSA WIN which when hit with the whip momentarily shifted out. ME GUINNESS was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that ME GUINNESS on examination was found to be lame in its near side front leg. Before being permitted to race again, ME GUINNESS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
