Racing Incident Report
SEA PEARL was withdrawn on 17.9.02 on veterinary grounds (lame right hind) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter PLENTY OF SURPRISE (S K Sit). Before SEA PEARL can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. H K Yim (TELECOM BABE) was questioned as to the reason for him arriving almost an hour late. He said he was not aware the rules require him be on course one hour before the first race. No action was taken, however, he was told a repetition may not be condoned. After being boxed, BUENO BUENO became fractious, reared and had both front legs caught over a partition. BUENO BUENO was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was not suitable to race. It was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before BUENO BUENO can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. PROFIT TREASURE, which had drawn next to BUENO BUENO, was released from the stalls, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. DECOUVERT came from the gates awkwardly and bumped the outside of its stall. About the 1000 Metres, PLENTY OF SURPRISE was momentarily unbalanced. Near the winning post, DECOUVERT, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded between HAIL WINNER and WONDERFUL LIFE. E Saint-Martin (HAIL WINNER) explained his intention was to ride the horse midfield if possible and endeavour to find cover. He said HAIL WINNER did not leave the gates as well as he thought, bumped with WONDERFUL LIFE, as a result of this his right foot was misplaced in the stirrup iron. It took him some time to adjust this and as a consequence of these incidents HAIL WINNER got further back than he had hoped. He went on to say he was also not able to find any cover and was obliged to race wide throughout. DECOUVERT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, DECOUVERT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said he was unable to detect any abnormalities. PACKING ANGEL and PLENTY OF SURPRISE were sent for sampling.
