Racing Incident Report

PERFECT SHADOW and WATCHMAN were slow to begin. From an outside gate, BELLAGIO jumped with its head up and was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position on the rail. In the early stages, SUPER COMBINATION hung in. Over the concluding stages, ACE ACADEMY, JUST VICTORY and BELLAGIO raced tight inside the heels of SUGAR AND SPICE which was giving ground. Because of this, these horses were not ridden out to the line as they normally would be. F Coetzee (SUPER COMBINATION) explained when the horse won over the course and distance at its previous start, the track on that occasion was harrowed. He said today despite his riding SUPER COMBINATION failed to show its customary early speed and was a beaten horse a long way from the finish. He said SUPER COMBINATION does have a history of leg problems and in his opinion was not suited by the firm sealed surface of today's track. SUPER COMBINATION was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. SUPER COMBINATION was examined by the Veterinary Officer following the race. He said the horse was lame in the right fore leg. Before SUPER COMBINATION can race again, it will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLDCHIN BEST was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of GOLDCHIN BEST did not reveal any abnormalities. HOLY QUEST and CZAR OF PRUSSIA were sent for sampling.
