Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, JADE RUYI bounded in the air and lost ground. From a gate towards the outside, ENERGETIC PRINCE was momentarily steadied and shifted cross behind runners to a position close to the rail. In the early stages, DOMINATION hung in. Approaching the 800 Metres, RECOGNITION got its head on the side and was inclined to shift in away from FAIRWAY FINDER. Approaching and passing the 600 Metres, BOXING DAY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of PERFECT SCORE. Near the 500 Metres, BOXING DAY was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of PERFECT SCORE which shifted in when only just clear, then making the Home Turn hung out. For some distance approaching and passing the 400 Metres, METRO FLYER was held up and unable to improve between TIME OF RED WINE and FAIRWAY FINDER. To obtain clear running, METRO FLYER was shifted to the outside of RECOGNITION after the 300 Metres. After the 400 Metres, Apprentice K T Yeung (TIME OF RED WINE) dropped his whip. After the 300 Metres, ENERGETIC PRINCE, which was beginning to make ground, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of TIME OF RED WINE which was giving ground. A Delpech (PERFECT SCORE) explained the horse began well, immediately started to over-race, therefore he allowed it to stride forward and cross to the fence in the lead. He said however after straightening PERFECT SCORE did not respond to his riding and in his opinion felt flat and did not appreciate backing up quickly on its last start. PERFECT SCORE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, PERFECT SCORE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. FAIRWAY FINDER, RECOGNITION and METRO FLYER were sent for sampling. After the race, ENCHANTED EVENING was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said the horse was displaying a heart irregularity. Before being allowed to race again, ENCHANTED EVENING will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
