Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, ASSET PLAY became fractious, reared and got its right fore leg caught over the barrier partition. WELL BEST, which had drawn inside ASSET PLAY, was struck by that horse when it had its leg over the partition. Both horses were removed from the barriers, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations were considered suitable to race. Also after being boxed, it was noted the cross nose band worn by GOLD MASTER was incorrectly fitted. As it was not possible to refit this cross nose band behind the barriers, it was removed and GOLD MASTER raced without this piece of gear. MANIFEST began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, ABLE EAGLE stumbled and then bumped with EVER MORE. BRILLIANT EXPRESS was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, EVER MORE shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of LIGHTNING BOLT. Approaching the 1000 Metre turn, MANIFEST got its head up when being crowded for room between GOLD MASTER and ABLE EAGLE which shifted in when throwing its head about. Shortly after this, MANIFEST, ABLE EAGLE and EVER MORE were steadied when crowded for room between SHOGUN which was racing tight inside TAKING THE LEAD and GOLD MASTER which got its head on the side and shifted out. At the 1000 Metres, MANIFEST was checked when crowded for room between LIGHTNING BOLT and GOLD MASTER which shifted out further while continuing to hang and proving difficult to settle. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, LIGHTNING BOLT hung in. About the 600 Metres, WELL BEST bumped the running rail. After the 600 Metres, GOLD MASTER was steadied away from the heels of LIGHTNING BOLT. Approaching and passing the 400 Metres, SHOGUN was held up and unable to improve when racing behind GOLD MASTER. In the early part of the Straight, TAKING THE LEAD hung in. Near the 200 Metres, SNIPPETYIYEA was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between ABLE EAGLE and GOLD MASTER which shifted in when giving ground. In the Straight, EVER MORE hung in and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, GOLD MASTER hung out. After passing the winning post, ASSET PLAY (S Dye) clipped the heels of NAMJONG TREASURE, which after initially shifting in away from ABLE EAGLE, was then taken in by that horse which shifted ground when being eased down. ASSET PLAY, WELL BEST and SHOGUN were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 8 December 2003)
ASSET PLAY, which fell after the finish of the race, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. ASSET PLAY was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning and at this time was noted to have sustained an injury to its right front tendon. Before being allowed to race again, ASSET PLAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
