Racing Incident Report

FABULOUS was slow to begin and then was steadied away from the heels of NOBLE GLORY which on jumping shifted out. KASHMAC was slow to begin. Making the first turn, ON THE TEE got its head up and was steadied when awkwardly placed between RED FIREBALL and OPTIC CHIEF which was racing tight inside SPEED WINNER. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, LOK WAH TREASURE was inclined to lay in and was steadied away from the heels of OPTIC CHIEF. In the early stages, CAPABEL proved difficult to settle. Making the Home Turn, CAPABEL, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room inside RED FIREBALL. Shortly after straightening, OPTIC CHIEF was steadied and shifted to the outside of MULTI RANSOM to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, MULTI RANSOM raced wide and without cover. Apprentice H W Lai (NOBLE GLORY), the winner of the race, was advised against over exuberance when making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. Throughout the race, ON THE TEE (S Dye) was reluctant to stride out. S Dye said he became concerned with the horse's action near the 1000 Metres and then after the 200 Metres the horse's action further deteriorated and because of this he eased ON THE TEE down. ON THE TEE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ON THE TEE after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being permitted to race again, ON THE TEE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding his riding over the final 600 Metres, Apprentice P H Lo (LUCKY BIRD) said at the 600 Metres he was following ON THE TEE, he had KASHMAC forward of him on his outside and NOBLE GLORY directly on his outside. He said when KASHMAC and NOBLE GLORY commenced to improve their positions after the 500 Metres, he did not shift away from the rail and follow those horses forward as in his opinion with the rail in the C+3 position the runners would shift out on straightening. He said just prior to straightening he shifted to the outside of ON THE TEE to improve around that runner, then in the Straight LUCKY BIRD hung in. He said because of his he decided to allow LUCKY BIRD to continue with its momentum and look for runs towards the inside. He said he rode LUCKY BIRD along hands and heels and it made ground nicely until near the 100 Metres when he had to steady his mount, wait until he cleared RED FIREBALL and then shift to the inside of ONE EYE JACK to continue going forward. He said over the concluding stages he continued to ride LUCKY BIRD out vigorously hands and heels and the horse closed the race off strongly. Apprentice Lo was told in the opinion of the Stewards his riding of LUCKY BIRD over the final 600 Metres lacked the initiative which is expected of someone with his experience and in slightly different circumstances he could find himself in breach of a serious rule. He was further told he must ensure he rides all his mounts in a manner which leaves no room for query. CAPABEL was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of CAPABEL after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CAPABEL, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, CAPABEL will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MULTI RANSOM, NOBLE GLORY and LUCKY BIRD were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported MULTI RANSOM had made an abnormal breathing noise during the race. The Veterinary Officer said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a displacement of the soft palate. Before being allowed to race again, MULTI RANSOM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
