Racing Incident Report
With the intention of being ridden quietly from the outside barrier, TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND after beginning well was steadied and taken back across behind runners. BIG KAHUNA and EVER KING were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, POWERKIE and FLAMING SUN were steadied when crowded for room between CENTENNIAL SMILE and TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND, both of which shifted ground. At the 1400 Metres, BIG KAHUNA blundered when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WAIT FOR ME which at this time was being steadied to obtain a position behind the lead. At the 600 Metres, BIG KAHUNA was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of EVER KING after being carried out by WAIT FOR ME (M Nunes). M Nunes was advised to exercise care. At the 300 Metres, CENTENNIAL SMILE was steadied when disappointed for running between SILVERBIRD and TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND. After the 200 Metres, EVER KING, which had been inclined to hang out, was steadied away from the heels of BIG KAHUNA which shifted in. Over the concluding stages, WAIT FOR ME shifted out while hanging. Just prior to the winning post, BIG KAHUNA was checked when crowded for room between TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND which shifted in and WAIT FOR ME which shifted out. No action was taken. EXPRESS MAIL and POWERKIE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of EXPRESS MAIL and POWERKIE after the race did not show any significant findings. TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND, KING ACRYLIC and WAIT FOR ME were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 22 January 2007)
POWERKIE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. POWERKIE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer S Woods yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, POWERKIE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
