Racing Incident Report

Prior to leaving the holding stalls, CLASSIC KING had its right hind plate reset. CLASSIC KING was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. PACIFIC ALLIANCE was a little slow to begin and then was checked when crowded for room between PRIMIATA and SNIPER which on jumping shifted in. WONG'S FAVOURITE was slow to begin. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, CENTENNIAL SMILE hung out. Near the 800 Metres, BAAZIGAR, which at this time was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of CLASSIC KING. For the major part of the race, WONG'S FAVOURITE travelled wide and without cover and at the 700 Metres was ridden to go forward into the lead. At the 500 Metres, SNIPER was steadied away from the heels of PRIMIATA which in turn was steadied away from the heels of MAKE A MINT which when hanging out was steadied while awkwardly placed inside the heels of WONG'S FAVOURITE. After this, PRIMIATA and SNIPER continued to lose ground when being held up behind MAKE A MINT which was giving ground. On straightening, SNIPER was steadied and shifted to the inside of MAKE A MINT which was continuing to give ground. After straightening, SUNNY RIVIERA was reluctant to shift to the outside of PACIFIC ALLIANCE into clear running. At the 200 Metres, VINCERE, which had been closing the race off fairly and having difficulty obtaining clear running, was checked to avoid the heels of ONE EYE JACK which was giving ground. For the major part of the race, MAKE A MINT raced ungenerously and making the turns hung out. The performance of MAKE A MINT, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, MAKE A MINT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ONE EYE JACK was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, ONE EYE JACK was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said ONE EYE JACK had lost its right hind plate and an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ONE EYE JACK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BAAZIGAR and SUNNY RIVIERA were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 22 March 2007)
ONE EYE JACK, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. ONE EYE JACK was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A Lee this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. As previously advised, ONE EYE JACK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
