Racing Incident Report
WIN AGAIN was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SANZIRO blundered when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SKYVIEW BAR which on jumping shifted in. In the early stages, WEI HAI INVINCIBLE and FIFTY FIFTY proved difficult to settle. After the 1200 Metres, SKYVIEW BAR was steadied away from the heels of FIFTY FIFTY (F Coetzee) which shifted in when not quite clear. F Coetzee was advised to exercise greater care. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SANZIRO was steadied away from the heels of IMPERIAL APPLAUSE. For some distance passing the 700 Metres, SANZIRO was steadied after pulling its way forward into a narrow run between IMPERIAL APPLAUSE and NILOMETER. Near the 500 Metres, SANZIRO was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HELENE BRILLIANT. At the 300 Metres, SKYVIEW BAR was steadied away from the heels of WEI HAI INVINCIBLE. On several occasions over the final 200 Metres, WEI HAI INVINCIBLE got its head up. At the 100 Metres, FIFTY FIFTY, which was giving ground, was crowded for room between HELENE PILLAGING and SANZIRO. Apprentice K L Chui (HELENE BRILLIANT) said the intention had been for the horse to be ridden in a forward position behind the lead. He said HELENE BRILLIANT did not show the necessary speed in the early stages to obtain that position and as a consequence travelled further back than anticipated. He said in the early part of the Straight HELENE BRILLIANT felt a little unbalanced in its action and took time to respond to his riding. When questioned regarding the poor performance of SKYVIEW BAR, G Mossé said during the preliminary the horse coughed. He said SKYVIEW BAR travelled only fairly in the race until the 600 Metres and when placed under pressure afterwards did not respond to his riding. He said on pulling up SKYVIEW BAR again coughed on several occasions. SKYVIEW BAR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SKYVIEW BAR after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SKYVIEW BAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Beadman (WHATABOB) said he had been instructed from a wide barrier to ride the horse quietly in the early stages and if possible endeavour to obtain a position with cover. He said as WHATABOB is a horse with a history of hanging out, when the horse is drawn more favourably, it is ridden further forward with cover. He said it was thought today’s race would be run at a good tempo and the horse would be best suited in a position with cover and if possible positioned inside another runner to prevent it from hanging out. He said WHATABOB began well, he immediately steadied his mount in an endeavour to follow the riding instructions he had been issued, however, WHATABOB almost immediately commenced to hang out and proved difficult to ride. He said HE CAN TANGO, which was racing to his inside, remained racing away from the rail and as a result WHATABOB was left without cover. He said throughout the race WHATABOB hung out and making the turns hung out badly. WHATABOB was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WHATABOB after the race did not show any significant findings. HELENE BRILLIANT, SUPER TRAVELLER and KINDACROSS were sent for sampling.
