Racing Incident Report

WIKI WIKI and KING OF TURF were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, CHEERFUL HAPPINESS and SIMPLY JOY were crowded for room between FANTASTIC TIME which shifted out slightly and MAGIC PRACTITIONER which shifted in abruptly after bumping with BAYVIEW GREYSLEW. W Pike (ACTUARIAL TALENT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of MONTY, resulting in that horse being taken in onto BAYVIEW GREYSLEW, causing that horse to be taken in across the rightful running of SIMPLY JOY which was severely checked and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled. W Pike was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 5 November 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 25 October 2009. For some distance after the 1100 Metres, BAYVIEW GREYSLEW proved difficult to settle. For some distance approaching and passing the 800 Metres, MAGIC PRACTITIONER got its head up when being severely checked away from the heels of I KNOW I CAN. For the majority of the Straight, SO PRETTY SO SMART had difficulty in obtaining clear running between MULTI-WIN SPIRIT and WINNING STRATEGY and near the 100 Metres bumped the hindquarters of WINNING STRATEGY, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. For the majority of the race, MONTY travelled wide and without cover. The performance of I KNOW I CAN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, I KNOW I CAN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. M W Leung (CHEERFUL HAPPINESS) stated that he shifted his mount away from the fence in the early stages so as he would be able to come to the outside of runners in the Straight as he was aware that the horse is best suited when making an uninterrupted run on the outside of runners. He said however passing the 600 Metres he had WINNING STRATEGY and then KING OF TURF racing to his outside and he was unable to position CHEERFUL HAPPINESS outside of those runners in the early part of the Straight. M W Leung stated that it was not until after passing the 150 Metres that he was able to shift CHEERFUL HAPPINESS to the outside of KING OF TURF. A veterinary inspection of FANTASTIC TIME after the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being permitted to race again, FANTASTIC TIME will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of I KNOW I CAN and SIMPLY JOY after the race did not show any significant findings. ACTUARIAL TALENT and SUPER FAMILY were sent for sampling.
