Racing Incident Report

SLEEP WELL was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, ANTIPASTO was crowded for room between SUNRISE which shifted out after being bumped by MY GOAL and LOMBARDI which shifted in. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, GREAT ACHIEVEMENT was steadied away from the heels of LOMBARDI which itself was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of MY HOME TOWN. Also passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUNRISE was steadied when tightened for room between GREAT ACHIEVEMENT and AMBITIOUS TREASURE. When questioned regarding his riding of MY GOAL in the early stages, Y Fukunaga stated that he had been instructed to lead on MY GOAL tonight if possible, however, if horses showed superior speed to his outside, he should obtain a position behind those horses. He said after making contact with SUNRISE at the start, he rode MY GOAL along to obtain a forward position, however, he observed MY HOME TOWN and HO WONGCHOY being ridden to obtain forward positions. He said rather than continue to ride MY GOAL along, he elected to steady his mount passing the winning post on the first occasion and obtain a position behind MY HOME TOWN. Trainer B K Ng advised the Stewards that it was his intention for MY GOAL to lead tonight if possible. He said he did advise Jockey Fukunaga that if the speed of the race in the early stages was fast, he should steady MY GOAL rather than to be involved in a speed battle. A veterinary inspection of MOON CHASER after the race did not show any significant findings. HO WONGCHOY, MY HOME TOWN and AMBITIOUS TREASURE were sent for sampling.
