Racing Incident Report
WITHINMYHEART was crowded for room at the start between HAPPY REUNION and VITAL FLYER which shifted out. From the outside barrier, JUMBO GOLD was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1100 Metres, VITAL FLYER and ELEGANCE DESIRE raced tight. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, CROWN WITNESS lost ground after getting its head on the side and hanging out across the heels of GOOD WORDS. PRETTY ONE, which was following CROWN WITNESS, was steadied in consequence. Passing the 500 Metres, WITHINMYHEART was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HAPPY REUNION. Approaching the 400 Metres, ELEGANCE DESIRE shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WITHINMYHEART. Also approaching the 400 Metres, VITAL FLYER and GOOD WORDS bumped as VITAL FLYER shifted out to obtain clear running. Near the 300 Metres, O Doleuze (TAI SING YEH) dropped his whip. O Doleuze was advised that this was the second time in as many weeks that he had dropped his whip. The Stewards placed O Doleuze on notice and advised him that if he drops his whip again in a race within a reasonable amount of time, he may be penalized. ELEGANCE DESIRE was not able to obtain clear running until passing the 200 Metres. In the Straight, HAPPY REUNION got its head on the side and hung in. For the majority of the race, GOOD WORDS travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, J Lloyd stated that he had been instructed to ride CHARLES THE GREAT in 4th or 5th position if possible, however, due to the horse’s light weight he was advised that it was acceptable for him to obtain a more forward position if circumstances permitted. He said after beginning only fairly he rode his mount along in the early stages to obtain a forward position and after travelling a short distance he had obtained a position to the outside of HORSE GALORE. He said after the 1000 Metres he anticipated that that horse would shift to the fence and that CHARLES THE GREAT would be able to cross KING MOSSMAN to its inside and would therefore be left racing outside the leader. He said that after this HORSE GALORE took some time to cross towards the fence which allowed KING MOSSMAN the opportunity to maintain its running behind that horse and to the inside of CHARLES THE GREAT. He said at this time he observed that KING MOSSMAN was travelling strongly. He added that after the 900 Metres he urged his mount forward to clear KING MOSSMAN, however, despite his efforts KING MOSSMAN continued to travel strongly and maintained its position to the inside of CHARLES THE GREAT. He said having in mind that KING MOSSMAN was racing in the order of a length behind and to the inside of CHARLES THE GREAT, he felt that he would have had to make considerable use of his mount to clear KING MOSSMAN. He said making the first turn after the 700 Metres CHARLES THE GREAT raced greenly, got its head on the side and hung out which allowed KING MOSSMAN the opportunity to consolidate its position inside CHARLES THE GREAT which as a result was left racing three wide and without cover. He added CHARLES THE GREAT then came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and weakened in the Straight. J Lloyd was advised that his riding of CHARLES THE GREAT in the early and middle stages had come under notice and that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he should have made more of an effort than he did on this occasion to cross KING MOSSMAN to its inside. He was also advised that he must at all times ride competitively so as to afford his mounts every opportunity of obtaining the best possible position in races. A veterinary inspection of CHARLES THE GREAT after the race did not show any significant findings, however, an endoscopic examination was not able to be conducted on the horse post-race. KING MOSSMAN and CROWN WITNESS were sent for sampling.
