Racing Incident Report
From wide barriers, CHATER WAY and KING’S FOLKS were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. GROOVY was slow to begin and then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of REGENCY LUCK which shifted in. KYARA was slow to begin. When being steadied to allow FLEET COMMAND to cross, EL ZONDA got its head up approaching the 1200 Metres and then near the 1100 Metres EL ZONDA again got its head up when proving difficult to settle and being awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLEET COMMAND. At the entrance to the Straight, REGENCY LUCK became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by I SMELL MONEY which shifted out in an attempt to obtain clear running. I SMELL MONEY then had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Near the 300 Metres, KYARA was steadied and shifted out from behind EL ZONDA to obtain clear running. Passing the 250 Metres, REGENCY LUCK and KEEN WONGCHOY momentarily raced tight inside FLEET COMMAND which shifted in. A short distance later, EL ZONDA was steadied and shifted out after being crowded for room between TIME AFTER TIME which shifted in and FLEET COMMAND which was shifted out by its rider to relieve the tightening to horses to its inside. No further action was taken. Throughout the race, RUMBA KING travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CHATER WAY, Z Purton stated that from the wide barrier, he was obliged to shift across behind runners in the early stages. He said the tempo of the race increased at about the 700 Metres and it was at this time CHATER WAY immediately came off the bridle. He said he was following TIME AFTER TIME at that stage of the race, however, he had to ride CHATER WAY along in an attempt to remain racing behind that horse. He said rounding the Home Turn GROOVY was able to shift out and take CHATER WAY wider. He added he rode CHATER WAY along in the Straight, however, the horse was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding at any stage. A veterinary inspection of CHATER WAY and RUMBA KING after the race did not show any significant findings. TIME AFTER TIME and KEEN WONGCHOY were sent for sampling.
