Racing Incident Report
After the 1000 Metres, RACING FIGHTER travelled keenly and was steadied away from the heels of HARMONY HERO.
Soon after straightening, SEATTLE CHOICE made contact with TAKING AIM which became unbalanced.
After being disappointed for a run between MORETHANLUCKY and TAKING AIM approaching the 350 Metres, HAPPY FUN was shifted to the inside of TAKING AIM in order to improve.
After shifting out to obtain a run between UNCLE STEVE and ASSIMILATE approaching the 200 Metres, CIRCUIT THREE was directed back to the inside of UNCLE STEVE after becoming momentarily awkwardly placed behind that horse which was giving ground.
Throughout the race, MORETHANLUCKY and INSAYSHABLE travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on HAPPY FUN, Z Purton stated that in accordance with his instructions he was positive from gate 4 and was intent on crossing runners to his inside, however, THINKIN’ BIG was able to maintain its position inside the heels of HAPPY FUN. He said he had been asked to take up the initial lead on HAPPY FUN, but if he was challenged for the lead, he had the option to take up a trailing position behind the leaders. He said when SEATTLE CHOICE and then BUDDIES improved quickly to his outside approaching the 1200 Metres, he steadied HAPPY FUN, anticipating that SEATTLE CHOICE would cross down to the rail, however, when the rider of SEATTLE CHOICE maintained his position one horse away from the rail and then allowed BUDDIES to cross, this resulted in HAPPY FUN being slightly further back than had been intended. He said after this HAPPY FUN travelled comfortably and closed off the race satisfactorily. Trainer C S Shum confirmed that he had provided Jockey Purton with options, primarily being to lead early, but as he anticipated that BUDDIES would place pressure on HAPPY FUN, he had the option to take up a trailing position if that eventuated.
After the race, G van Niekerk reported that THINKIN’ BIG did not feel comfortable in its action which prompted him to ease the horse down over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of THINKIN’ BIG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, THINKIN’ BIG will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of CIRCUIT THREE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SEATTLE CHOICE and BUDDIES were sent for sampling.
