Racing Incident Report

MILLENNIUM SPIRIT jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of CHEVAL D'OR. On jumping, WINNING YEARS knuckled. At the 1100 Metres, HONEST DRAGON shifted in after being bumped by CLEVER CITATION. At the 1000 Metres, CHEVAL D'OR became unbalanced. At the 800 Metres, CITY PATROL became unbalanced and struck the running rail after being bumped on the hindquarters by D'OR WIN which shifted in momentarily. On straightening, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT, which was shifting out to find clear running, was steadied away from the heels of MIDAS KING. Just prior to the winning post, D'OR WIN was crowded for room between MILLENNIUM LEGEND which shifted in slightly and CITY PATROL (Apprentice Y T Cheng) which shifted out whilst being ridden along. Having taken into account that there was some contribution from MILLENNIUM LEGEND, the Stewards believed the appropriate action in this case was to record a severe reprimand against Apprentice Y T Cheng. Mr P F Yiu, Trainer of MILLENNIUM SPIRIT, explained he had eased up on the horse since its last start at Shatin on 4 February 2001 when it ran disappointedly. He said tonight he had engaged a senior rider as in his opinion the horse was not giving its best when ridden by an Apprentice last start. He added that he felt MILLENNIUM SPIRIT would run an improved race tonight despite it being its first start at Happy Valley, and he believed it would be suited by tonight's track condition. CLEVER CITATION was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
