Racing Incident Report

CAMARADERIE left the gates awkwardly and shifted in. LATIN DANCER came from the gates awkwardly. Just after the start, APPLIED SUPREME shifted out away from CAMARADERIE and bumped MASTER MARAUDER. Near the 1400 Metres, NATURALLY KING, which was going forward from an outside gate, pulling and laying in, shifted in and bumped HAIL WINNER. About the 200 Metres, TALK OF THE TOWN, which was making some ground, was steadied and shifted in to avoid MARTIAL HERO. In the Straight, APPLIED SUPREME had a tendency to lay in. When questioned, D Dunn (DARLEY) said the horse was well going into the race and was expected to run well tonight. He said he had been instructed by the trainer to ensure the horse was ridden in a rearward position as has been the practice of recent times. He said accordingly on jumping he dropped DARLEY out, took up a position at the tail following DIVINE FEELING which he had hoped would take him into the race. He said he realized in the middle stages he was a long way back and because of the manner in which the race was being run this was of concern to him. However, he was aware he had been told by the trainer that the horse must be put into the clear in the Straight and has only a short run, he said accordingly he was reluctant to shift to the outside of DIVINE FEELING before straightening and he expected that horse would take him into the race much further and quicker than it did. He said when he pulled DARLEY to the outside in the Straight, the horse did make some ground, but over the concluding stages did not stretch out as expected and as has been the practice in the past got its head up. D Dunn concluded by saying in hindsight it would have been better for him to have been closer in the middle stages. The explanations submitted by D Dunn were accepted, however, he was told whilst he should try to carry out instructions he is given, he must do all he can to ensure he does not set horses impossible tasks. LATIN DANCER and DARLEY were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
