Racing Incident Report

CAMARADERIE was withdrawn on 11.10.02 on veterinary grounds (lame right fore) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter RECOGNITION (F Coetzee). Before CAMARADERIE can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the gates, HOW FLUKE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He noted the horse had spread its right fore plate, was bleeding from its right fore foot and in his opinion was not suitable to race. Accordingly the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. RECOGNITION left the gates awkwardly. On jumping, LOK WAH TREASURE threw its head up. Also on jumping, NOT GUILTY was crowded for room between COLLEGE TOWN and EXPRESS LOT, both of which shifted some ground. Near the 800 Metres, CAVIAR ONE was steadied as OPTIC CHIEF momentarily shifted towards the rail. OPTIC CHIEF however almost immediately shifted back away from CAVIAR ONE. NOT GUILTY, which was following, became unbalanced behind CAVIAR ONE, shifted out slightly and bumped COLLEGE TOWN. In view of all the circumstances, no action was taken. Just after the 800 Metres, LOK WAH TREASURE was steadied when momentarily crowded between NOT GUILTY and EXPRESS LOT. About the 700 Metres, COLLEGE TOWN, which was racing tight between the hindquarters of CAVIAR ONE and LUCKY SUPREME, struck the hind leg of CAVIAR ONE and almost fell. NOT GUILTY, which was following, was severely checked in consequence. LOK WAH TREASURE was checked. Inconvenience was also caused to TRULY HAPPY, CONSENSUS and RECOGNITION. The interference which took place was obviously very severe, however, the Stewards on the evidence before them were not able to attribute responsibility to any rider or riders and accordingly found the matter to be accidental. LOK WAH TREASURE, PERFECT MOMENT, POPULAR CHOICE and EXPRESS LOT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported that OPTIC CHIEF had sustained a laceration to its right hind heel. Subsequent to the race, it was reported PERFECT MOMENT had lost its right front plate. It was also reported that NOT GUILTY had sustained lacerations to its right hind leg.
