Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, QUICK NEWS, which was standing with its head turned to the left hand side, was slow to begin. On jumping, GOOD HEART bounded in the air and on landing shifted in abruptly. CAPITAL GAIN began awkwardly, shifted out, bumped the outside gate of its stall and consequently lost ground. Shortly after the start, EAST OCEAN DRAGON was steadied when crowded for room between THE ONLY ONE and GOOD WIN which shifted in. After the 1000 Metres, CAPITAL GAIN, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up and shifted in abruptly when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HIN YUEN'S UNICORN. At the 800 Metres, AHEAD A HEAD was tightened for room inside GETMORE DANCER which was close to the heels of MEDIT KING. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, CAPITAL GAIN hung out and near the 700 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HIN YUEN'S UNICORN. Near the 300 Metres, CHARMING STRIDE was steadied when crowded for room between THE ONLY ONE which shifted in slightly and SOUTH CHINA NINETY which shifted out after being brushed by GETMORE DANCER as that horse shifted to the outside of MEDIT KING to obtain clear running. After the 200 Metres, CHARMING STRIDE was again steadied when crowded for room between SOUTH CHINA NINETY and EUPHORIC KID which shifted in abruptly. Near the 200 Metres, GETMORE DANCER got its head on the side and hung in. This caused crowding on its inside to CHARMING STRIDE and AHEAD A HEAD. As a consequence of this crowding, CHARMING STRIDE lost its position. Also near the 200 Metres, QUICK NEWS, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted to the outside of GOOD HEART to continue going forward. Approaching the 200 Metres, MEDIT KING shifted out away from GOOD WIN. This caused some inconvenience to GETMORE DANCER and EAST OCEAN DRAGON. Over the final 200 Metres, AHEAD A HEAD when under pressure got its head on the side and lay out. At the 100 Metres, EUPHORIC KID was momentarily steadied when tightened for room between THE ONLY ONE and CAPITAL GAIN. M Walker (MEDIT KING) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse behind the pace. He said he had been informed by Mr S Woods, trainer of the horse, that at its last start which was its first wearing a visor, the horse bounded in the air and lost ground at the start. He said tonight he was told to ensure the horse broke cleanly and race in a forward position. He said to avoid being three wide in the early stages, he allowed his mount to go forward and shift in to race beside GOOD WIN. AHEAD A HEAD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, AHEAD A HEAD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. GOOD HEART and INDIAN FIRE POWER were sent for sampling.
