Racing Incident Report

TUSITALA was slow to begin. On jumping, LUCKY VICTORIES and THE GOV were crowded for room between GREAT START which got its head up and shifted in slightly and MR PRESIDENT which shifted out. CHEERFUL HEART was slow to begin. W C Marwing (SCINTILLATION) said the instructions today were the same as when the horse last raced, being to obtain cover if possible behind the leaders. He said at its last start from a more favourable barrier, SCINTILLATION began well and immediately commenced to over-race, resulting in it leading. He said on the track SCINTILLATION has been worked behind another horse in an effort to have it relax and therefore settle in its races. He said today SCINTILLATION again began well, immediately commenced to over-race, got its mouth open and proved most difficult to settle. He said he looked to his inside and saw MYSTIC SPIRITS being ridden along in an endeavour to lead, he therefore crossed to the outside of that horse and hoped that it and SMART CHAMPION, which began from the outside barrier, would continue on, enabling him to drop onto the fence behind MYSTIC SPIRITS. He said however MYSTIC SPIRITS was never able to go far enough forward to allow him the opportunity to obtain this cover and therefore SCINTILLATION continued to over-race in the middle stages. He said he then did consider leading on the horse, but to have done so would have been contrary to his instructions. He said on straightening he nursed SCINTILLATION in the hope that it would finish the race off, however, it failed to do so. Mr I W Allan, trainer of SCINTILLATION, confirmed the riding instructions given to W C Marwing and said work has been done with the horse in an endeavour to have it relax in its races. He said if W C Marwing had allowed SCINTILLATION to continue forward in the early stages and lead as it happened last start, it would not have been in the horse's best interests and would have been clearly contrary to his riding instructions. Mr Allan said he will now consider dropping SCINTILLATION back in distance and also possibly altering the gear in which the horse races to assist it settling in its races. The explanations submitted by W C Marwing and Mr Allan were accepted. SCINTILLATION, MY CHOICE and SMART CHAMPION were sent for sampling.
