Racing Incident Report

GOLD DIGGER began awkwardly, got its head up and bounded in the air. KINGSTON GLORY began awkwardly and hit the inside gate of its stall. SHANGHAI DELIGHT was slow to begin. After the 1200 Metres, GALLANT HORSE became unbalanced when bumped between SHANGHAI DELIGHT and UNIVERSAL PIONEER. Also after the 1200 Metres, BETTER BOY, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up, momentarily shifted in abruptly and caused crowding on its inside to GOLD DIGGER, KINGSTON GLORY and LUCKY CHAMPION. F Coetzee shifted BETTER BOY out and relieved the crowding as soon as he was able to do so. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After the 1000 Metres, BETTER BOY was bumped by LUCKY MARAUDING. Approaching the 800 Metres, KINGSTON GLORY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BETTER BOY. At the 800 Metres, GALLANT HORSE got its head on the side, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of UNIVERSAL PIONEER. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, FAST TRACK hung out. After straightening, TRIUMPHANT GLORY was steadied when disappointed for running inside SHANGHAI DELIGHT. Near the 300 Metres, KINGSTON GLORY was shifted out when not able to obtain clear running between LUCKY MARAUDING and OSCAR STAR. For some distance near the 300 Metres, BETTER BOY was held up and unable to improve when racing inside LUCKY MARAUDING and close to the heels of MAGNIFICENT. After the 200 Metres, KINGSTON GLORY was momentarily steadied and shifted in away from the heels of OSCAR STAR which shifted out slightly. Just prior to the winning post, LUCKY CHAMPION was steadied when awkwardly placed between OSCAR STAR which shifted out slightly and FAST TRACK which shifted in slightly. In this incident, LUCKY CHAMPION was bumped by OSCAR STAR. Throughout the race, OSCAR STAR raced wide and without cover. A Marcus (KAO AND MING) said he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly in the early stages and then endeavour to obtain a run through the field. He said at its last start KAO AND MING had raced in a forward position, however, had failed to finish its race off. He said because of this he allowed KAO AND MING to begin only fairly and shifted across behind runners to a position near the rail but with the rear. He said in the Straight he endeavoured to follow BETTER BOY through and near the 300 Metres was momentarily held up and unable to obtain clear running behind that horse as it shifted out to improve. Mr D Cruz, the trainer of KAO AND MING, confirmed the instructions issued to A Marcus and said when ridden further forward over a shorter distance KAO AND MING did not finish its race off. BETTER BOY and LUCKY MARAUDING were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted GALLANT HORSE had an abrasion to the left hip.
