Racing Incident Report

PERFECT GALLANT, PREMIER CRU and POWER TICKER were slow to begin. From a gate towards the outside and with the intention of being ridden with cover, AMICABLE was steadied in the early stages in an endeavour to shift across behind runners. However, AMICABLE was unable to obtain cover, raced wide, proved difficult to settle, after the 1600 Metres was allowed to stride forward and near the 1200 Metres joined the lead. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, NOBLE GLORY and LOK WAH TREASURE got their heads up. Making the first turn, PERFECT GALLANT hung out. After the 1400 Metres, GREAT KID was steadied away from the heels of SOARING ANGEL which shifted back in after shifting out. After the 1200 Metres, SPEED WINNER proved difficult to settle when close to the heels of HONEYBEE. When SOARING ANGEL shifted out near the 1000 Metres, a number of runners were inconvenienced, the worst sufferers being POWER TICKER, GREAT KID, AMICABLE, HONEYBEE, SPEED WINNER and PERFECT GALLANT, all of which were hampered. After the 500 Metres, SOARING ANGEL was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of LAZY BUDDIES. Making the Home Turn, ALLEGRO was hampered and carried wider by NEW CENTURY which improved on its inside. Near the 300 Metres, SPEED WINNER was struck over the head by the whip of S K Sit (SOARING ANGEL). Over about the final 200 Metres, SPEED WINNER was inclined to lay in. In the Straight, PERFECT GALLANT hung in and proved difficult to ride. S K Sit said after crossing to the lead in the early stages the horse was reluctant to race on the rail. He said he managed to control the horse into the Back straight, however, shortly after the 1400 Metres it got its head up and shifted out abruptly, causing him to become unbalanced. He said when this happened SOARING ANGEL lost momentum. He said near the 1000 Metres when LAZY BUDDIES steadied in front of him, SOARING ANGEL again wanted to shift out abruptly. Mr D E Ferraris, the trainer of SOARING ANGEL, pointed out the horse had blinkers removed from its gear for tonight's race. He said in hindsight this may not have been in the best interests of the horse and contributed to it racing in the manner in which it did. Mr Ferraris was advised before being permitted to race again, SOARING ANGEL will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. P Payne (LOK WAH TREASURE) said the horse travelled comfortably in the early stages. He said in the Back Straight the race was slowly run and near the 1000 Metres he checked his mount to avoid the heels of PERFECT GALLANT which was inconvenienced in front of him. He said after this because of the pace of the race he shifted LOK WAH TREASURE to the outside, from the 800 Metres allowed the horse to gradually travel forward and then after the 600 Metres he commenced to ride along, however, the horse did not respond. He said because of the way the race was run he was obliged in his opinion to make his run sooner than he would have wished, however, he did not believe in the circumstances this would explain the horse's performance. He did point out throughout the race and following the race LOK WAH TREASURE was making an abnormal breathing noise. LOK WAH TREASURE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, LOK WAH TREASURE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have an epiglottic entrapment (breathing obstruction). Before being allowed to race again, LOK WAH TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPER DANA and NOBLE GLORY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported AMICABLE had lost its left fore plate.
