Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, TOP HONOR, which had kicked out and made contact with a rail entering the race track, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. CELEBRATION and ART TRADER were slow to begin. PRETTY TRIO began awkwardly, causing B Prebble, its rider, to become unbalanced. SURE FIT began awkwardly, threw its head around, on landing became unbalanced and as a consequence lost ground. Shortly after the start, DAY OR NIGHT was bumped by AGILITY. At the 1600 Metres, ART TRADER was steadied away from the heels of MILLENNIUM SPIRIT which shifted in when barely clear. Making the Home Turn, AGILITY was carried wider by MILLENNIUM SPIRIT which shifted to the outside of TOP HONOR into clear running. In the Straight, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT hung in, after the 400 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TOP HONOR and then near the 100 Metres was steadied when crowded for room between TOP HONOR and AGILITY which at this time was carried in slightly by ART TRADER. Near the 300 Metres, when under pressure, TOP HONOR got its head on the side and shifted out. At the 100 Metres, SURE FIT was checked when crowded for room between ART TRADER and PRETTY TRIO (B Prebble) which at this time was hanging and shifting in. In arriving at a decision to take no direct action against B Prebble, the Stewards took into account of the evidence of R Fradd that he had commenced to steady his mount prior to PRETTY TRIO shifting and at this time SURE FIT got its head up. He said SURE FIT in the past had shown itself to be a very light-mouthed horse and to over-react to incidents. The Stewards nonetheless reprimanded B Prebble and told him to exercise more care. Close to the line, ART TRADER was steadied away from the heels of PRETTY TRIO which was hanging in. Because of this, PRETTY TRIO was not ridden out as it normally would be right to the winning post. ART TRADER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, ART TRADER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ART TRADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WIND WINNER and CLASSIC DELIGHT were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SURE FIT had blood present at its mouth as a result of a laceration to the tongue.
