Racing Incident Report
NASA PEARL, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 5.12.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (cut head). Before being allowed to race again, NASA PEARL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CYPRESS HILL was withdrawn on 6.12.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CHEERFUL HEART. Before being allowed to race again, CYPRESS HILL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BEAR DOMINANCE was slow to begin. B Prebble (MILLION SUCCESS) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 2100 Metres he shifted in when not clear of KOWLOON FIT, causing that horse to be carried in and in turn cause crowding on its inside to KING HOGAN and KA KA WIN, as a result of which KA KA WIN lost its rightful running. B Prebble was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 18 December 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 11 December 2005. In addition, B Prebble was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. At the 1900 Metres, WINNING SUNSHINE and MILLION SUCCESS were crowded for room inside CHEERFUL HEART which shifted in. No action was taken. Near the 1700 Metres, KOWLOON FIT was bumped, hampered and carried wider by KING HOGAN (C Munce) which when proving very difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPRINTER shifted out abruptly. After this, KING HOGAN was allowed to stride forward into the lead. When KING HOGAN shifted across to the lead near the 1300 Metres, some inconvenience was caused to DASHING CHAMPION which was steadied. C Munce was advised to exercise care. At the 800 Metres, DASHING CHAMPION attempted to shift away from the fence from behind KING HOGAN, however, was unable to do so when CHEERFUL HEART held its position. Near the 500 Metres, GREEN IN BLUE was steadied away from the heels of KOWLOON FIT. At the 250 Metres, DASHING CHAMPION was shifted to the outside of KING HOGAN which was giving ground. At the 200 Metres, DASH AHEAD became unbalanced when momentarily tightened for room between DASHING CHAMPION and WINNING SUNSHINE. Right on the winning post, KING HOGAN and DASHING CHAMPION were crowded for room inside CHEERFUL HEART which was carried in slightly by DASH AHEAD. When questioned, D Whyte (KOWLOON FIT) explained when he rode the horse at its most recent start over the same course and distance as tonight's race, he had ridden along in the early stages and this caused KOWLOON FIT to over-race for a considerable distance. He said as a consequence of this KOWLOON FIT failed to finish the race off as he had hoped. He said therefore tonight it was decided to endeavour to obtain a forward position with KOWLOON FIT, however, he was not to ride along to do so and he was to ensure the horse was relaxed. He said after beginning well he did not ride KOWLOON FIT along in accordance with these instructions and as a result MILLION SUCCESS was able to cross him from the outside. He said after this he travelled three wide but did have cover. He added after the 600 Metres when SPRINTER commenced to give ground he was awkwardly placed behind that horse and lost further ground. He said he decided against shifting to the outside of SPRINTER as it appeared to him that horse would shift out and he would obtain running to its inside. S Sanders (SPRINTER) explained for the majority of the race the horse travelled three wide and without cover, however, was a beaten horse at the 600 Metres. He was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse, however, he did say the horse's form suggests it is better suited when racing at Sha Tin. The performance of SPRINTER, which finished tailed out and was a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, SPRINTER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of BEAR DOMINANCE, C Soumillon said the horse travelled at the rear as is usual. He said making the Home Turn he shifted the horse to the outside and it initially responded to his riding, however, after straightening did not close the race off as he had anticipated. He said in the past when he had ridden BEAR DOMINANCE the horse has performed best when not ridden out vigorously with the whip. He said tonight he after straightening initially rode BEAR DOMINANCE along hands and heels, however, when the horse failed to respond he used the whip on the horse and this had no effect. SPRINTER and BEAR DOMINANCE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SPRINTER and BEAR DOMINANCE after the race did not show any significant findings. MILLION SUCCESS, SEASONS KNACK and KA KA WIN were sent for sampling.
