Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, CASH SURPRISE became fractious. Before being allowed to race again, CASH SURPRISE will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. On jumping, CASH SURPRISE shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of FRIENDSHIP. Shortly afterwards, CASH SURPRISE was steadied when crowded for room between FRIENDSHIP and WIN HUNTER, both of which shifted ground. In this incident, both CASH SURPRISE and WIN HUNTER lost ground. EASY DASH began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of EUPHORIC KID. GO GO VICTORY began awkwardly and stumbled. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, AMERICAN VICTORY hung out, because of this MAGNIFICENT HORSE was carried wider. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, EASY DASH hung out and near the 600 Metres was carried wider by EUPHORIC KID which shifted out into clear running. Shortly after straightening, LUCKY CORDELIA was crowded for room between QUICK NEWS and MAGNIFICENT HORSE. From shortly after the 400 Metres until near the 200 Metres, FRIENDSHIP was held up and unable to obtain clear running between JOYFUL WORLD and GO GO VICTORY, both of which were giving ground. Over the final 200 Metres, LUCKY CORDELIA and GLOBAL FORTUNE hung out. M Rodd (CHARIOT OF WEI HAI) confirmed he had been instructed to ride the horse in midfield if possible, however, it was anticipated the race would be run at a slow pace and if CHARIOT OF WEI HAI was proving difficult to settle he should allow it to travel in a more forward position to ensure it travelled comfortably. He said CHARIOT OF WEI HAI began well, he immediately dropped his hands on the horse's neck to prevent it running freely and when he did this the horse came back underneath him comfortably, he therefore elected to follow WIN HUNTER in the run. He said passing the 800 Metres he slapped CHARIOT OF WEI HAI down the shoulder with the whip on several occasions to ensure the horse maintained its position, then in the Straight when in clear running CHARIOT OF WEI HAI finished the race off nicely. The riding instructions concurred with the advice given to the Stewards by Trainer A T Millard prior to the running of the race. He said his major concern was he did not want M Rodd fighting against CHARIOT OF WEI HAI to have it settled behind midfield. Apprentice H W Lai (JOYFUL WORLD) said in his opinion the horse's poor performance could be attributed to the fact that it had been taken on in the lead by GO GO VICTORY and as a result did not relax. He said the effort used by JOYFUL WORLD in the early stages meant it was unable to finish the race off. JOYFUL WORLD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of JOYFUL WORLD after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY CORDELIA and GLOBAL FORTUNE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported CASH SURPRISE had sustained a laceration to its mouth.
