Racing Incident Report
MAGIC TEMPLE and RED WINE HONEY were slow to begin. NATIVE LANGUAGE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MODERN PROSPECT which as a result became unbalanced. On jumping, JOY TRUMPS got its head up. Making the first turn, SPARKLE was steadied when awkwardly placed between ASSET PLAY which at this time got its head on the side and hung in and AWESOME EAGLE which got its head up and commenced to hang out. For some distance after this, AWESOME EAGLE continued to hang out and at the 1200 Metres was steadied away from the heels of ASSET PLAY which shifted in. In the early stages, TABBRIS raced wide and without cover and after the 1100 Metres was allowed to stride forward. Near the 1100 Metres, AWESOME EAGLE was checked when crowded for room between TABBRIS and ASSET PLAY which shifted out. After the 1000 Metres, ASSET PLAY fell, causing D Whyte, its rider, to be dislodged. When ASSET PLAY fell, NATIVE LANGUAGE, which was racing behind, was unable to avoid the fallen horse and also fell, causing C Munce, its rider, to be dislodged. Inconvenience was also caused to SPARKLE which was checked severely, shifted in and bumped MADE IN HONGKONG which became unbalanced. Also ONLY YOU was checked severely and in addition JOY TRUMPS which shifted out caused RED WINE HONEY and MODERN PROSPECT to be hampered and carried wider on the track. When questioned, D Whyte said approaching the 1000 Metres he became aware his horse had bled from both nostrils during the run and this caused the horse to fall. He added in his opinion there were no other circumstances surrounding the fall. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported ASSET PLAY had bled profusely from both nostrils. At the 700 Metres, MAGIC TEMPLE was steadied away from the heels of TABBRIS. At the 500 Metres, MAGIC TEMPLE was steadied when crowded for room between MADE IN HONGKONG and TABBRIS which at this time commenced to give ground. Near the 200 Metres, VINCERE and AWESOME EAGLE bumped as a result of both horses shifting ground. For a considerable distance after this, AWESOME EAGLE continued to hang in and raced tight outside VINCERE. Then over the concluding stages, VINCERE got its head on the side and hung out. When questioned, M W Leung (ONLY YOU) said it had been decided prior to the race that from the outside barrier he should go back to ensure the horse was able to obtain a position with cover. He said ONLY YOU had been ridden in the same manner when drawn the outside barrier previously. He said after the 800 Metres he maintained a position behind RED WINE HONEY and SPARKLE as in his opinion this would ensure he had an opportunity of obtaining clear running in the Straight and he was of the belief RED WINE HONEY being a fancied runner would carry him forward into the race. He said he was not aware of an opportunity to improve his position towards the inside at this time. After viewing the films, M W Leung conceded between the 800 Metres until after straightening there existed an opportunity for him to improve his position behind MADE IN HONGKONG. He did say by following RED WINE HONEY he was able to obtain clear running in the Straight and ONLY YOU finished the race off nicely. M W Leung was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to be aware of opportunities to improve his position and to avail himself of such opportunities at all times. TABBRIS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TABBRIS after the race did not show any significant findings. LEGIONNAIRE and VINCERE were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 13 February 2006)
NATIVE LANGUAGE, which fell after the 1000 Metres, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer C Fownes yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have wounds to the left forelimb. Before being allowed to race again, NATIVE LANGUAGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
