Racing Incident Report

CAPABEL was withdrawn on 10.2.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (dull and inappetant) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SHINING LIGHT (G Schofield). Before being allowed to race again, CAPABEL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Due to an electrical malfunction, the bell which signifies the start of the race did not sound. There was a slight delay before the bell was activated manually. Mr J Moore, trainer of SHINING LIGHT, was fined $2,000 for presenting that horse in the Parade Ring with other than its approved gear. KIWI DASH and NEW CENTURY were slow to begin. CITY GLORY began awkwardly and lost ground. From the outside gate, FUN CRUISER was steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners. At the 1400 Metres, JUSTINIAN, which was racing tight inside LUCKY YEARS, was steadied away from the heels of MAXIMUM JOY. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, JUSTINIAN raced tight between CITY GLORY and MAXIMUM JOY which was carried in slightly by SHINING LIGHT. After the 700 Metres, SPEED WINNER was reluctant to hold its position between KING OF SPADES and MAXIMUM JOY which at this time was giving ground. At the 600 Metres, KIWI DASH was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of LUCKY YEARS. This caused some inconvenience to FUN CRUISER which was racing inside KIWI DASH. Making the Home Turn and in the Straight, NOBLE VICTORY hung out and proved difficult to ride. After the 400 Metres, LUCKY YEARS was steadied away from the heels of MAXIMUM JOY. Throughout the race, SHINING LIGHT travelled wide and without cover. O Doleuze (LAZY BUDDIES) said he intended to ride the horse in a prominent position if possible. He said LAZY BUDDIES was dropping back in distance today from its recent starts and when the gates opened, because of the pace of the race in the early stages, he was not able to obtain a forward position. He said LAZY BUDDIES despite his urging continued to race at the rear of the field until after straightening when it responded to his riding and closed the race off nicely. LAZY BUDDIES was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of LAZY BUDDIES after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY YEARS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, LUCKY YEARS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY YEARS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KING OF SPADES and JUST IN TIME were sent for sampling.
