Racing Incident Report

HAPPY KID began awkwardly, got its head up and shortly afterwards stumbled. ALIPES began awkwardly and threw its head about. PROPELLOR was slow to muster speed in the early stages. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, RAIN IN SPRING was checked and ALIPES crowded for room between PROPELLOR and GLOBE RIVER (Apprentice K L Chui) which shifted in momentarily. Despite the Stewards acknowledging Apprentice Chui relieved the pressure, he was nonetheless reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. SUPER FANTASY, which was following RAIN IN SPRING, was steadied to avoid the heels of that horse. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, THUNDER MAN and HAPPY KID were momentarily crowded for room inside KAO AND MING which shifted in. At the 700 Metres, RAIN IN SPRING, which was shifting away from the fence, became unbalanced when close to the heels of GLOBE RIVER. PROPELLOR made the turn at the 600 Metres awkwardly and became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside the hindquarters of GLOBE RIVER. Shortly after this, ALIPES was checked when crowded for room between SERIOUS PLAY and RAIN IN SPRING which shifted out away from GLOBE RIVER after initially being carried wider by that horse. In the circumstances, no action was taken. On straightening, JUBILOSO got its head on the side and hung in towards the heels of CHINOOK. In the early part of the Straight, SUPER FANTASY had difficulty obtaining clear running and after the 200 Metres improved into a narrow run between KAO AND MING and RAIN IN SPRING. Approaching the 200 Metres, GLOBE RIVER and KAO AND MING raced tight. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view an incident occurred just prior to the winning post which cast doubt on whether THUNDER MAN (D Whyte) should be declared 2nd placegetter of the race. After viewing the available videos and all members of the panel expressed their opinions, the Stewards believed just prior to the winning post JUBILOSO was bumped by THUNDER MAN which shifted to the outside of CHINOOK to obtain clear running as that horse itself drifted wider in the run to the line. In the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe it was an appropriate case to exercise their powers under Rule 123 and accordingly weighed-in was semaphored, confirming the Judge's placings. Subsequently D Whyte was advised to exercise greater care. F Coetzee (KAO AND MING) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a midfield position, however, if KAO AND MING began well and was able to obtain a forward position without being made use of, that would be acceptable. He said KAO AND MING began well and travelled into a forward position without being ridden along. He said he was therefore hoping if he continued forward, he would be able to obtain a position with cover. He said as he allowed CHINOOK and JUBILOSO to cross approaching the winning post on the first occasion, HAPPY KID improved to hold its position on his inside which resulted in him travelling three wide without cover. He said he was not able to obtain cover throughout the race and as a consequence KAO AND MING failed to finish the race off. S Dye (PROPELLOR) said at no stage of the race did the horse travel comfortably. He said despite being ridden along in the early stages PROPELLER failed to muster speed and got much further back than was intended. He added PROPELLOR which performed poorly coughed when being eased down following the race. PROPELLOR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PROPELLOR after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, PROPELLOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RAIN IN SPRING, CHINOOK and THUNDER MAN were sent for sampling.
