Racing Incident Report

SIKANDER was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease). Before being allowed to race again, SIKANDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the barriers, an adjustment was made to the left front plate of ORIENTAL MAGIC. In the early and middle stages, RICE FIELD proved difficult to settle. Making the Home Turn, HEALTHY WEALTHY was carried wider by SOPRANO which shifted out to obtain clear running. R Quinn (HEALTHY WEALTHY) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position if possible from a wide draw. He said HEALTHY WEALTHY began well and he felt the horse would be able to travel forward, however, shortly after the start when HEALTHY WEALTHY did not go forward of its own doing, he commenced to ride along. He said at the 1600 Metres it became apparent to him that HEALTHY WEALTHY would be obliged to remain racing wide and without cover as in his opinion it was not showing sufficient pace to cross runners to his inside. He said because of this he elected to steady HEALTHY WEALTHY and obtain a position with cover behind RICE FIELD which was further back than instructed. When questioned regarding the improved performance of INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS, Trainer C H Yip said at the horse's last start which was over 1400 Metres on rain affected ground, it had drawn a wide barrier. He said on that occasion the horse travelled in a forward position, however, was wide on the track. He said in the past INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS had shown a liking for rain affected ground. Mr Yip added generally in the past when drawn wide barriers INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS has not performed well. He said today from an inside barrier the horse was able to obtain a good position without being made use of and in his opinion this accounted for the horse's improved performance. D Whyte (DANEHILL EXPRESS) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said at its most recent start DANEHILL EXPRESS began well and was able to obtain a forward position on rain affected ground. He said today the intention was again to go forward, however, at no stage did DANEHILL EXPRESS show the necessary speed to obtain a forward position. He said he was required to make use of DANEHILL EXPRESS in the early and middle stages to obtain a position slightly behind midfield. He said on straightening he placed DANEHILL EXPRESS under pressure, however, the horse failed to respond to his riding and because of this over the concluding stages he did not ride the horse out. Mr J Size, trainer of DANEHILL EXPRESS, was also unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. Mr Size said DANEHILL EXPRESS had worked well leading into today's race in which he believed the horse to be a strong chance. He said there had been no concerns with DANEHILL EXPRESS in the stable since its last start. Mr Size was told before DANEHILL EXPRESS will be permitted to race again, the horse will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DANEHILL EXPRESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, DANEHILL EXPRESS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings other than the horse had lost its left front plate. ORIENTAL MAGIC was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ORIENTAL MAGIC after the race did not show any significant findings. INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS and LOTZATOW were sent for sampling.
