Racing Incident Report

MILLION SUCCESS was withdrawn on 9.6.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease). Before being allowed to race again, MILLION SUCCESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WADADELIGHT was slow to begin and then lost further ground as a result of being crowded for room between AQUA-TREASURE and MILLENNIUM SPIRIT which got its head on the side and shifted in. SOCRATES was slow to begin. On jumping, KING OF FISH and CALIFORNIA LUCK bumped. Making the turn out of the Straight on the first occasion, KING OF FISH was steadied to avoid the heels of BRILLIANT ONE (Apprentice K T Yeung) which shifted in when racing tight inside AQUA-TREASURE. Apprentice Yeung was advised to exercise greater care. Making the first turn, ARROGANCE was checked when crowded for room between CITY SURFER and BRILLIANT ONE which shifted in when not properly clear. Having considered all the circumstances, the Stewards believed on this occasion it was appropriate for Apprentice Yeung to be severely reprimanded. At the 1200 Metres, ARROGANCE got its head up and lost ground when being steadied away from the heels of CITY SURFER. SOCRATES and WADADELIGHT, which were following, were checked in consequence. Making the Home Turn, CALIFORNIA LUCK hung out. At the 400 Metres, AMSTERDAM was bumped by SOCRATES which was endeavouring to improve on the outside of CALIFORNIA LUCK. For the major part of the race, AMSTERDAM travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. When questioned, C Munce (COTTON BALL) said the intention had been to be in a forward position if possible. He said after being boxed COTTON BALL became fractious and reared on two occasions. He said because of this he took hold of the horse's mane to ensure he was not unbalanced as the horse jumped. He said when the gates opened COTTON BALL began well, however, he was restricted in being able to ride his mount along as his whip which was being carried in his right hand was entangled in the horse's breast plate. He said he was able to free the whip about 50 Metres after the start and he then commenced to ride along to go forward, however, COTTON BALL did not show its customary speed and got much further back than was anticipated. He said COTTON BALL did not travel well at any stage of the race and in his opinion was not suited by today's wet track conditions. COTTON BALL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of COTTON BALL after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of COTTON BALL, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, COTTON BALL will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Apprentice C K Tong (KING OF FISH) explained the intention was to lead with the horse, however, after being crossed by other runners after passing the winning post on the first occasion, KING OF FISH was reluctant to face the kickback. He said in the Home Straight KING OF FISH did not respond to his riding. KING OF FISH was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KING OF FISH after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of KING OF FISH, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KING OF FISH will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KING HESPERUS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, KING HESPERUS, which tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of KING HESPERUS was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KING HESPERUS will have to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. AQUA-TREASURE and WADADELIGHT were sent for sampling.
