Racing Incident Report

While being paraded prior to the race, CHEEKY LAD lost its right front plate. This plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. As a result, CHEEKY LAD was late leaving the Parade Ring. After arriving at the Start, GENERAL SPEEDEE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said no abnormality was detected and in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. Also after arriving at the Start, M Odendaal, the rider of WISDOM EXPRESS, expressed concerns over the horse's action during the preliminary. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On jumping, TOFFEE knuckled. Also on jumping, BAJAN BELL became unbalanced when crowded for room between JOY TRUMPS and SAFETY FIRST. Shortly after this, BAJAN BELL and JOY TRUMPS were steadied when crowded for room between SAFETY FIRST and LUCKY MAN which was carried in slightly by ISLAND SPEED. No action was taken. As a consequence, BAJAN BELL travelled back in the field. In the early stages, LUCKY MAN raced ungenerously and proved difficult to settle, then in the Straight hung out. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, SAFETY FIRST and GEM MASTER hung out. After the 400 Metres, BAJAN BELL was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside TOFFEE. For the major part of the race, HEALTHY FRUITS raced wide and without cover. Apprentice C K Tong (TOFFEE) said near the 600 Metres the horse made an abnormal breathing noise. He said after this TOFFEE travelled only fairly and failed to finish the race off as he had hoped. He said near the 350 Metres he momentarily dropped his right rein, however, this was of little significance. TOFFEE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, TOFFEE, which had previously been reported to be a "roarer", was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings. W M Lai (BAJAN BELL) explained inside the final 50 Metres his mount when being ridden out commenced to shift in when he was not clear of TOFFEE. He said because of this prior to the winning post he stopped riding, straightened his mount and therefore did not ride it out to the end of the race. The explanation submitted by W M Lai was accepted. BAJAN BELL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BAJAN BELL after the race did not show any significant findings. ISLAND SPEED and VICTORY TURBO were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 3 October 2006)
BAJAN was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. BAJAN BELL was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Size yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, BAJAN BELL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
