Racing Incident Report

TOP TOP LIGHT was slow to begin. ENGINEERING WONDER was slow to begin and was then steadied away from the heels of TOP TOP LIGHT. COSMO SUCCESSOR began awkwardly. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, after beginning awkwardly, SUPREMACY was slow to muster speed. Approaching the turn at the 700 Metres, COSMO SUCCESSOR was steadied when crowded for room between LUCKY FRUIT and WELL NOTED. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, GUAN DAO hung out. Approaching the Home Turn, TOP TOP LIGHT was held up and was unable to improve, then on straightening was shifted out to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, HAR HAR CHARMS travelled wide and without cover. D Whyte (TAIJI SPIRIT) said shortly after the start his mount blundered badly after striking the heels of SUPREMACY which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. He said after this TAIJI SPIRIT took a short distance to regain its balance, then near the 1000 Metres he allowed the horse rein in an endeavour to have the horse gradually make up lost ground. He said near the 800 Metres he slapped TAIJI SPIRIT down the shoulder with the whip and then shifted the horse in to save ground. He said after the 700 Metres TAIJI SPIRIT commenced to make ground through the field. B Prebble (SOUTH CHINA ELITE) said he crossed to race outside the lead in the early stages, however, the horse made the turn at the 700 Metres awkwardly, did not change legs and then hung out. He said in the Straight SOUTH CHINA ELITE did not respond to his riding, then near the 250 Metres changed legs and after this did not stretch out. He said because he was concerned with the action of SOUTH CHINA ELITE, he eased his mount down over the concluding stages. Mr D J Hall, trainer of SOUTH CHINA ELITE, was not able to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse. He said SOUTH CHINA ELITE trialed well on the surface leading into tonight’s race and because of this was given a strong chance by the stable. SOUTH CHINA ELITE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of SOUTH CHINA ELITE after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SOUTH CHINA ELITE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of LUCKY FRUIT which was having its first start on the All Weather surface tonight, O Doleuze said throughout the race he had to make use of his mount to maintain his position. He said as a consequence of this LUCKY FRUIT held its breath which resulted in it not being able to pick up when placed under pressure. LUCKY FRUIT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY FRUIT after the race did not show any significant findings. WELL NOTED and TOP TOP LIGHT were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 13 March 2008)
SOUTH CHINA ELITE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SOUTH CHINA ELITE was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer D J Hall this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. As previously advised, SOUTH CHINA ELITE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
