Racing Incident Report

TALE OF FRIENDSHIP was slow to begin. In the early stages, TRIUMPHANT GLORY proved difficult to settle. After the 1200 Metres, ALIVE AND KICKING was left racing wide and without cover. At the 800 Metres, ARISTOCRACY got its head up and became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of SPRING SMILES. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, FREEBIRD was steadied when held up and unable to improve. After the 200 Metres, COULDN'T CARE LESS, which was having some difficulty obtaining clear running, was shifted out away from the heels of ALIVE AND KICKING which was giving ground. When questioned regarding BAUHINIA leading, Trainer S Woods explained the instructions today had been similar to when the horse also started from a wide barrier at its last start. He said the riding instructions on both occasions were to go forward in the early stages in an attempt to cross and race in a forward position, however, if the horse were to be left racing wide and without cover, it should then be taken back to a position with cover. He said at its most recent start despite being ridden along in the early stages, BAUHINIA did not show sufficient speed to cross runners to its inside and was therefore steadied making the first turn and taken back in an attempt to find a position with cover, however, was unable to do so and travelled wide throughout the race. He said today BAUHINIA showed better pace in the early stages and was able to cross and race in the lead. He did say because of the use made of BAUHINIA in the early stages to cross to the lead today, the horse failed to finish the race off. When questioned regarding the poor performance of TALE OF FRIENDSHIP, G Mossé said at no stage of the race did his mount travel well and in the Straight failed to respond to his riding. He said he was not able to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse. Mr Y S Tsui, trainer of TALE OF FRIENDSHIP, was not able to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said TALE OF FRIENDSHIP was well fancied by the stable. TALE OF FRIENDSHIP was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TALE OF FRIENDSHIP after the race did not show any significant findings. ALIVE AND KICKING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, ALIVE AND KICKING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained an abrasion to the right hock. FANTASTIC TIME, ALICE TOO and SPRING SMILES were sent for sampling.
