Racing Incident Report

GIANT BLIZZARD began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. STAREILLY, which was leaning against the inside of its stall, was slow to begin. On jumping, AMITYSHIP was hampered by GOUF which shifted out. For the major part of the race, RAINBOW STAR hung out and making the turn at the 800 Metres shifted wider on the track. Passing the 800 Metres, ENCOSTA DON, which was improving its position, was checked when crowded for room inside AMITYSHIP which initially shifted out when making the turn awkwardly and was then carried in slightly by GREEN SUPER which in turn was carried in by GOUF. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After the 800 Metres, GOUF was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY BO BO. In the middle stages, GOUF hung out. Making the Home Turn, STAY YOUNG was carried wider by GREEN SUPER which shifted out. After the 300 Metres, CARE FREE MIDAS was steadied when disappointed for running between MASTER TOWER and NATIONAL GLORY. K L Chui (STAREILLY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 150 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of GREEN SUPER, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. K L Chui was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 9 February 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). This suspension shall commence on Thursday 29 January 2009 on which day K L Chui was due to resume race riding from a suspension incurred at the Happy Valley racemeeting last Wednesday. In addition, K L Chui was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. In the run to the line, STAY YOUNG got its head on the side and was inclined to hang out. Throughout the race, MASTER TOWER travelled wide and without cover. GOUF and NATIONAL GLORY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported STAREILLY had bled from both nostrils and AMITYSHIP had lost its left front plate.
