Racing Incident Report

LITIGAGO jumped awkwardly and threw its head about. CITIZEN KANE left the gates badly with its head up, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of TRILLION WIN. In the early and middle stages, TRILLION WIN proved very difficult to settle, threw its head about. Near the 1400 Metres, JOKER, which was pulling, was crowded for room between RED SUN and BEST LIGHT which was taken in slightly by CHARMING CITY. Approaching the 200 Metres, GOOD HEAVENS and BEST LIGHT were crowded for room between RED SUN which shifted out and ASIA RISING which shifted in. D Harrison (LITIGADO) said before the race the Trainer had pointed out to him the horse had been somewhat disappointing since being in Hong Kong and he was instructed to try and ride the horse quietly today. He said after jumping LITIGADO immediately started to pull, proved very difficult for him to settle, shortly after the start became unbalanced on the heels of INDUSTRIAL PIONEER and he settled down second last position. In the middle stages, he said however when MERIDIAN STAR improved on his inside, LITIGADO again started to over-race and near the 800 Metres as a result of the way the horse was racing, he lost his position between MERIDIAN STAR and LUCKY SIX and finished up last. After this when LITIGADO was by itself, he said the horse did settle better and then over the concluding stages in his opinion considering all the circumstances the horse found the line quite satisfactorily from last on straightening. F Coetzee (MAGNIFIER) said the horse had been working very well and all at the stable were confident that MAGNIFIER would run well today. He said the horse left the gates satisfactorily, travelled comfortably about midfield, near the 700 Metres was crowded for room between INDUSTRIAL PIONEER and GOOD HEAVENS which shifted out and shortly after this MAGNIFIER despite his riding started to drop right out of the race. He said in the Straight because of the way the horse was going, he was convinced something was wrong with it and he did not ride MAGNIFIER out as he normally would. Subsequent to the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that when he examined MAGNIFIER, the horse had a heart irregularity (Arrhythmia) and he also said MAGNIFIER in his opinion was uncoordinated in both hind legs. Before MAGNIFIER will be allowed to race again, the horse will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and it will be subjected to an official veterinary examination, such an examination to include the results of an ECG test. R Fradd (TRILLION WIN) said before today's race he had worked the horse in blinkers and this work had been quite satisfactory. He said today he had difficulty settling TRILLION WIN, but when put under pressure the horse did not respond and was very disappointing. He was unable to put forward any real explanation for the run. MAGNIFIER and TRILLION WIN were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, it was reported that JOKER had sustained a laceration to its off side front fetlock joint.
