Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the barriers, E Saint-Martin expressed concern with the way ALWAYS ON had worked to the Start. ALWAYS ON was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said he was unable to detect any abnormalities and in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. In the early stages, SUPREME STAR over-raced and proved very difficult to settle. Throughout the race, SAINTLY PARTNERS hung out. An inquiry into the reason for CHINA LEGEND, TRIUMPHANT SMILE and FLEETING TIME falling at about the 700 Metres was adjourned to a date to be fixed. When the falls occurred at about the 700 Metres, REFRESHINGLY, HAPPY HORSE and I WIN were all severely checked. Before racing again, CHINA LEGEND will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said TRIUMPHANT SMILE, which was involved in the fall at about the 700 Metres, was bleeding profusely from both nostrils. He said this was causing the horse to stagger and the horse was uncoordinated in its action. He said an endoscopic examination was performed. He was convinced the bleeding was originated from the lung. In view of the severity of the bleeding attack, the Senior Veterinary Surgeon intends to recommend to the Stewards that TRIUMPHANT SMILE be retired from racing.
